Pokémon GO is an Augmented Reality (AR) game developed by Niantic based on the Pokémon anime. Players use their smartphones to play the game by moving around while GPS and other location services are used to provide the game services.
In the recent 0.189.0 update for the game, players have been reporting that the Adventure Sync is not working. Even with the location services turned on, turning on Adventure sync does nothing. Nothing is getting recorded or synced. Check out the reddit post below –
PSA: Adventure sync is broken in 0.189.0, DO NOT UPDATE from TheSilphRoad
Players playing on Apple smartphones have this issue more aggressive than others where nothing works. Clearing out cache or App data entirely, even reinstalling the game doesn’t seem to fix the issue.
But on Android, the feature is still working but unreliably. Players have been suggesting a full reboot to notice the distance logged in the game.
The only thing right now you can do to fix the issue is not to update your game. If you have updated, you need to downgrade it.
On an Apple smartphone, it may not be easy and requires you to connect your device to a computer with iTunes and then retrieve an older IPA file from the device folder and then extract and reinstall it. This may be a very tedious task and you should not be doing it unless you know what you’re doing. You may use tutorials on the web but always back up your device before tinkering with the files.
On the other hand, for an android device, it’s fairly easy, you just need to uninstall the game, download the APK of the version you want to install from the web and install it. Make sure you’re downloading the correct version from a safe website. Also, these files are also risky as they may have a backdoor for stealing your personal data. Do this while taking precautions.
