Pokemon Generation (Gen) 9 Release Date, leaks , starters, region and rumors

Pokemon is a highly grossing franchise. With new rumors and upcoming remakes of the older generations, the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon Company is going to be a grand success for sure in the upcoming years. However, we have some news about the release of the newest generation of the Pokemon series, Generation 9. Here’s everything you need to know.

Pokemon- Generations

Debuting the market in 1998, the Pokemon franchise gained a lot of attention worldwide. The company is responsible for marketing and management of the brand along with licensing of the franchise to different sectors including video games, etc.

The company releases generations that include new regions, new sets of pokemon with different abilities that are entirely different from the older ones. However, the first generation was released in Pokemon games -Red, Blue, Green, Yellow way back in 1996 including a total of 151 pokemon for the platforms Gameboy and Nintendo 3DS by Gamefreak(later formed the Pokemon Company along with Nintendo and Creatures) featuring the Indigo Region. It was a huge success and as a result, more generations were released in the following years.

Pokemon Generation List with release dates

  • Generation I- (1996-1999)
  • Generation II-(1999-2002)
  • Generation III-(2002-2006)
  • Generation IV-(2006-2010)
  • Generation V-(2010-2013)
  • Generation VI-(2013-2016)
  • Generation VII-(2016-2019)
  • Generation VIII-(2019- present)

Generation 9- Release Date

If we follow the pattern from 2006, a new generation has been released every third year. So the newest Generation 9 is expected to be released in 2022-23.

Generation 8- Sword and Shield

The current generation is Gen VIII called Sword and Shield featuring the Galar Region released on Nintendo Switch. 8 games are based on this generation and a total of 89 new pokemon were released making the overall total 898.

Generation 9- What we know and what to expect

After coming across a post on 4chan by New Wind Pokemon InSight, YouTuber RuffledRowlit stated that Generation 9 of Pokemon is already in development.

He also stated the following-

  • A new pokemon type- Kaze might be introduced in Generation 9 along with a new region.
  • Summer and Winter type(tentative names) pokemon might be introduced
  • Cover Legendaries will share the Kaze type
  • Also, the map will be the same for the two games
  • Routes are identical but upside down
  • As per the leak, Starters are already completed. A little bear with a musk on its neck and back, Matsukuma, a goat with an upside-down candle-like flame as a beard, Hiyagi, and a baby crane-like bird with a kasa on its head, Tatsuru.

For more info, you can watch this video.

All these are just rumors and are not yet confirmed. Although there is barely any chance that all these will make it to the game, it’s better to know something rather than nothing.
