Phasmophobia Left Mouse Button (LMB) Not Working Issue Is there any fix yet

Phasmophobia has been a standout horror co-op game, keeping players on edge since its early access release. Despite remaining in early access for four or five years now, the game’s loyal fanbase continues to grow, thanks to regular updates and chilling content. But with new features also come new bugs and adjustments, and recently, players have reported an issue where the left mouse button (LMB) is suddenly not functioning as expected in the game. So, what’s going wrong here, and is there any fix for it? Keep reading to find out.

Imagine years of playing Phasmophobia, using the left mouse button for essential in-game actions, only to find that it suddenly doesn’t work the way you’re used to. Players are understandably confused and frustrated, with many expressing disbelief at such a major change. Discussions are flooded with players wondering, “What nonsense is this?” as they struggle to adapt to the new control setup.

Phasmophobia Left Mouse Button (LMB) Not Working Issue Is there any fix yet

Well, despite players’ initial assumptions, the LMB issue isn’t a bug or glitch but an intentional change made by the developers. The game’s latest update has altered how the LMB functions in the control scheme, disrupting many players like yourself accustomed to a different setup.

The Crimson Eye Hotfix and Why LMB Can’t Be Rebound

Recently, Phasmophobia received the Crimson Eye hotfix, which introduced a significant change to LMB functionality. According to the official patch notes, “You can no longer rebind the left mouse click or Xbox A/PlayStation X button to any keybind; this is to prevent the UI from becoming unusable.” While it might seem inconvenient, this change was made to address issues where rebinding LMB led to usability problems in the game’s interface. Unfortunately, this means there’s no way to revert this binding, and we are left needing to adjust.

Player Response to the LMB Update

Unsurprisingly, the response to this update has been largely negative. Many have voiced their frustration in various community forums, including the Phasmophobia Steam discussions, where complaints about the change are plentiful. For instance, a player felt forced to “wipe and remap years of muscle memory.” Another player commented that the update, which came right in the middle of the Halloween event, has made the game nearly “unplayable” for them. Some have even stated they’ll stop playing until the original control scheme is restored.

Workarounds?

For those looking for a workaround, there’s a solution. A player developed an AutoHotkey script to emulate the previous LMB functionality, though this requires additional setup and may not be ideal for everyone. Nevertheless, this workaround shows the lengths players are willing to go to maintain their familiar setup.

Anyway, for now, there’s no official fix to revert the LMB rebinding limitation, and it seems unlikely that Kinetic Games will roll back the update. So, if you’re experiencing this issue, you may need to either adapt to the new setup or try one of the creative workarounds shared by other players. That’s all we know about the LMB issue for now.
