Sony’s recent PlayStation Showcase on May 25th revealed Phantom Blade Zero along with many new and returning games. The highlights of that showcase included Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater Remake, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Spider-Man 2, and, of course, S-Game’s Phantom Blade Zero. A “Kungfupunk” (in the developer’s own words) game, you play as “Soul”, an elite assassin who was framed for the murder of the patriarch of the organization he belongs to, The Order. Phantom Blade Zero mixes the steampunk theme with Chinese kung fu in a semi-open world like Outer Wilds, Metal Gear V, and such. Exciting, isn’t it? But when is it releasing exactly?
Phantom Blade Zero is being developed by the Chinese video game studio, S-Game. Although not known that much in the West, Phantom Blade is quite a popular franchise back home in China. Most games in the Phantom Blade series have been smartphone titles published only in China. But now, S-Game wants to bring the franchise to a wider audience with the release of Phantom Blade Zero. So, when does it release for PS5 and PC? Let’s find out!
Phantom Blade Zero Release Date for PC & PS5: When is it coming out
At the time of writing this article, we have yet to receive a release date for Phantom Blade Zero. The PlayStation Showcase trailer only revealed the combat and general story of the game, with no mention of a release date or window. The developers did assure that more details would be revealed sooner in the upcoming months.
Although not explicitly stated in the announcement trailer, Phantom Blade Zero is not a PlayStation exclusive and will be released on PC too. According to the Q&A done on the game’s official discord server, the devs answered a question in relation to the game being time-exclusive with the statement that “For now we don’t have any exclusivity on any platform”. Even the game’s official page mentions Steam and Epic Games as the supported platforms. In that same Q&A session, the developers didn’t communicate anything about the release, saying that they were unable to answer at the moment. Phantom Blade Zero started its core development in early 2022, so a 2023 release is pretty much off the table. Late 2024 or early 2025 could be a possibility, but we aren’t entirely sure yet.
It’s pretty evident from the trailer that Phantom Blade Zero is a very ambitious game. Just like Black Myth: Wukong. As such, we are sure of the fact that the development of the game will take some time to polish before releasing it worldwide. Until then, all we can do is wait and look out for little bits of information that the developers release.
