After a decade-long wait, Starbreeze Studios’ sequel to Payday 2 is finally here. Officially released on September 21, 2023, Payday 3 is now available for Windows, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. So far, the gameplay aspect of the game has been a solid improvement over its predecessor, but as usual, Starbreeze’s handling of technical issues is once again a miss. However, it is a very fresh release, and the studio has already announced plans for a year’s worth of content. Well, since the game is a co-op heist simulator shooter, it’s already obvious that playing it with friends is going to be loads of fun.
There aren’t many good co-op heist simulators on the market right now. That’s one of the reasons why Payday fans have stuck with the series for so long. That and Starbreeze’s commitment to improving their game. There’s a lot of fun and chaos to be had, so let’s not wait any longer and find out how you can add and invite friends in Payday 3.
Payday 3: How to add/invite friends & play with them
Add Friends
Before you can start adding and inviting friends in Payday 3, head to the official Starbreeze website and create a Nebula account. You can also sign in with your console ID if you want to. You will also be asked if you want to opt in or out of Payday 3 Telemetry. Opt-in, as this enables cross-play for you. Lastly, remember to note down whatever username you are using for your Nebula account.
Once that’s done, head back to Payday 3 and press “O” on your keyboard. In the case of console users, it’s the “Menu/Start” button. You will now find yourself in the Social/Friends section of the game. In the “Search Users” option, enter the username of the person you want to invite. Select your friend from the search list and send a friend request. Now, all you have to do is wait for your friends to accept the request, which can be found in the “Incoming Friends Requests” section.
Invite Friends
Follow the same steps as before until you are in the Social tab. When your friends have accepted your request, they will appear on your friend list. Just press the RS button (controller) or P key (PC) to send an invite to your selected friend. When they accept, you will be good to go.
Right now, playing with friends is the ideal setup, as the game’s AI teammates aren’t that good. Additionally, know that Payday 3 doesn’t come with voice chat support, so you will have to rely on text chat for any kind of communication. Still, that’s better than nothing, at least.
