One Piece Chapter 987 Recap
Kaido at the start of the battle is shown reminiscing his battle with Oden. The whole backstory of how Kaido was given the scar by Oden is revealed in full detail. The scabbards are trying their best to bring down Kaido at this point while on the other side Beast Pirates are shocked as a raid rains hell on them/
Kaido is struggling to keep up with Kiki, Neko, Raizo as they start chipping him down. His old scars start to hurt again as they all fall down in a basement.
Meanwhile, a confrontation occurs as the pirates attack the scabbards only to be stopped by Hyogoro. Ulti and Yamata fight as Yamato decides to take on the mantle & name of Oden.
Luffy is hounded by Big Mom as the scabbards still engage Kaido getting his praise. Scabbards show their trust on Luffy even though Kaido tries to poison their thoughts. Luffy declares that he wants to clear Wano of all the problems including Big Mom, Kaido, Orochi and others.
Another bomb is dropped on Kaido as he sees Samurai entering the fray. Kaido dons his Dragon mode but scabbards are quick to stick on him. Kaido is now ready to get serious and warns scabbards. It is a full moon night and the stage is set for chapter 988 to take over.

- A breakdown of the fight between Scabbards and Kaido clearly show that the best is yet to come.
- Kaido is now sobered up and has turned into a dragon that will probably overpower the scabbards.
- Scabbards will be defeated in Act-3 but after they fight valiantly vs Kaido.
Scabbards in their own rights are very strong and in the next chapter we will see them using all of their powers to fight Kaido. Chapter 988 of Once Piece will have Nekomamushi and Inuarashi’s Sulong from. This will allow them to fight head on against Kaido at maybe even equal footing. But even through the combination of 9 scabbards is powerful, it is nowhere close to Kaido’s real power.
There are fights happening on so many fronts and so many things can change the course of a fight that predicting is a big hassle. There is also Law, Hawkins & Drake all fighting for their own goals. They might make temporary alliances to achieve their goals.
We have Ulti vs Yamato happening on another front, Ulti angry on Yamato regarding her betrayal. That will be a cool fight and we might see glimpses of it next chapter. There are so many weird alliances like Marco and Perospero that need to be explained and we might see it in upcoming chapters.
Luffy on the other hand has announced that he will wipe out all the notorious elements in Wano. He wants to change the country by defeating Big Mom, Kaido and all of them. But the logistics of it is baffling as Luffy alone cannot scratch Kaido plus Big Mom together. Let us wait and see what will happen.
