Are you unable to change the Upscaling Technique setting available in the Graphics settings menu of Oblivion Remastered? Well, don’t worry; you aren’t the only player encountering this issue. After the most recent patch of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered released for the PC GamePass version of the game, there have been a number of reports from players unable to change the Upscaling Technique in-game. So, why is this issue happening and how to fix it? If these are the questions in your mind, continue reading for more details.
The Anti-Aliasing setting will be greyed out, while you can’t switch the Upscaling Technique setting other than what’s already set, and that’s “Off”. If you have recently updated the PC Gamepass version of Oblivion Remastered to the latest version, then the damage is already done. It has been confirmed that the most recent update is the reason why you are unable to change the Anti-Aliasing setting and Upscaling Technique setting in the game. Now, you must be wondering whether the developers are aware of this problem. Well, yes, they are.

Oblivion Remastered Upscaling Technique Not Working: How to fix it
Based on the response from the developers, shared by Reddit user Jackal239, we came to know that the developers are indeed aware of the issue with the Xbox Game Pass version of the game. Bethesda has said the following:
“Greetings!
Thank you for contacting the Bethesda Customer Support Team. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We are aware of an issue where the DLSS/upscaling options are not available after the update on April 25th, 2025 for the Xbox App for PC. We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Regards, Bethesda Customer Support”
So, expect an official fix soon. However, given that it’s the weekend, it’s likely that the release of a fix will take some time. So, while waiting, try the most effective workarounds to deal with this issue:
Console Commands
Did you forget that Oblivion Remastered supports console commands? Using this, you can change the in-game settings. But remember that using console commands will lock achievements from your current save so keep that in mind. However, if you don’t want to lose the thrill of unlocking achievements even after using console commands, try this mod.
Anyway, coming back to the topic, to be able to enable Frame Generation or alter the Upscaling Technique in-game, first, open the console command in-game by pressing the “~” key. Now, enter the following command:
For DLSS
- “Altar.UpscalingMethod 1“: This command will change the upscaling technique used to DLSS.
- “Altar.DLSS.FG.Enabled 1“: This command will enable Frame Generation using DLSS.
- “Altar.DLSS.Quality 5“: This command will set the quality of upscaling.
- 2: DLAA
- 4: Quality
- 5: Balanced
- 6: Performance
- 7: Ultra Performance
For AMD FSR 3
- “Altar.UpscalingMethod 2“: This command will change the upscaling technique used to AMD FSR 3.
- “Altar.FSR3.FI.Enabled 1” or “r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1”: This command will enable Frame Generation using AMD FSR 3.
- “Altar.FSR3.Quality 2“: This command will set the quality of upscaling. The higher the number, the better the performance and the lower the visuals.
Press Y while hovering over the Upscaling Technique Setting
As shared by Reddit user StarPlayerOfTheAbes, they were able to enable anti-aliasing by simply hovering over the Upscaling Technique Setting and pressing Y. This did work for other players too. However, the only downside to this method is you can’t enable Frame Generation using this method.
Engine .ini
If you don’t want to use the console commands, you can access the game’s engine.ini file by heading over to this directory: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\Config\WinGDK. Open the Engine.ini file using Notepad and copy-paste the following command at the very bottom of the file:
[SystemSettings]
r.FidelityFX.FSR3.Enabled=1
r.FidelityFX.FSR3.QualityMode=2 ; Balanced quality mode
r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1
r.FidelityFX.FI.AllowAsyncWorkloads=1
r.FidelityFX.FI.OverrideSwapChainDX12=1
After this, save the changes and then launch the game to check whether the changes took effect.
Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling
There is a high chance that the Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling option is disabled on your PC, due to which you are unable to enjoy the new GPU-related features like Frame Generation. To turn it on, simply go to the Windows Settings menu, select Graphics Settings, and then the Default Graphics Settings option. Here, enable the Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling option.
With that said, now you can hopefully fix the upscaling technique not working issue in Oblivion Remastered in no time. We hope that you find this guide informative. If you did, consider visiting DigiStatement for more such interesting reads on all things gaming.
