The ZTE Nubia Z20 launched on August 16, 2019 in China came with Android 9 and the company promised to give Android 10 update. The phone was launched on October 14, 2019 globally.
In fact, Nubia is not well-known for updates but they agreed to give a number of bug fixes and optimizations. Also, the company recently launched recruitment for Closed Beta program of Android 11 for Nubia Red Magic 3 and 3s.
As promised, the company is now launching the public beta of Android R V309 for Nubia Z20.
This upgrade will change the Android version from Android P to Android R. At the same time, functions such as Split Screen, Clone, Picture-in-Picture, and Game-Related functions will be added. The overall UI style will be completely upgraded, including Game Space, Dark Mode and more.
The phone already came with a Dark Mode but Dark theme didn’t do much because only the notification shade went black, whereas the system UI and menus remained white. Probably, this upgrade will fix it and the dark mode will give a totally new experience.

Tips:
- For a better experience, it is recommended to update the third-party application to the latest version in the app store after the upgrade to avoid the adaptation problem of Android R due to the old third-party application version.
- After upgrading from P to R version, rollback to P is not supported. If you forcibly roll back, it will cause data loss and bricking.
