After going through a messy launch back in September 2021, Amazon Games’ New World has been more or less able to establish a firm player base in the ever-changing, chaotic lands of MMORPG titles. At the time of publishing this guide, the game had a 24-hour peak player count of 56,740 players—an impressive number to say the least, considering what it went through a few years ago. However, that sudden jump in player numbers must be due to its newest and first major update or expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth. With a new story, mounts, weapons, and whatnot, this expansion could breathe new life into the game. However, with new updates come lots of technical problems. This update has also brought many including issues related to crashing, stuttering, not launching, fps drops, and black screens.
Well, the problem here is pretty self-explanatory. After getting the latest expansion, some players have started to experience various issues in the game. Well, such problems are quite common in every game and can be fixed with the right workarounds. So, if you have been struggling with the same, make sure to follow this guide.
New World Crashing, Not Launching, Stuttering, FPS Drops, & Black Screen Issues: Is there any fix yet
You can use the following workarounds until an official fix is made available. Try following them all, and only skip a workaround if you’ve already tried it before.
Update Windows –
You should always keep your Windows OS updated if you want to get optimal performance out of your build. Open Windows Settings and check if you’ve got an update. If yes, then download and install it immediately. Restart your PC after the installation is done, and then start the game.
Update BIOS –
Players can try updating their BIOS and see if that helps. Since messing around with BIOS can be a tricky and risky thing to do, proceed with the utmost caution. As for accessing and updating BIOS, you will have to consult the manual for that.
Move to SSD –
HDDs are getting obsolete by the year when it comes to using them as a game’s main installation folder. More and more developers now recommend installing their games on SSD rather than HDD, so we suggest you do the same with New World too. Just open Steam, and from your Library, right-click on New World. Select Properties > Installed Files > Move the install folder.
Delete steam_appid.txt and uncheck “Run this program as an administrator” –
First of all, head to the game’s installation folder, and from there, find the game’s .exe file. Right-click on it and select Properties > Compatibility. Uncheck the “First of all, head to the game’s installation folder, and from there, find the game’s .exe file. Right-click on it and select Properties > Compatibility. Uncheck the “Run this program as an administrator” and “Disable Fullscreen Optimization” options. Click on Apply and OK to finish. You should also open the Bin64 folder, find the .exe file, and do the same thing.this program as an administrator” and “Disable Fullscreen optimization” options. Click on Apply and OK to finish. You should also open the Bin64 folder, find the .exe file, and do the same thing.
Next, look for the steam_appid.txt file. If found, make a local backup of it and then delete that file. If not, then you can skip this process.
Disable Steam Overlay –
As great as Steam Overlay is, it can also be quite a nuisance, as it is known to cause issues such as this for a lot of games. If you have Steam Overlay enabled, it’s high time you disabled it. To do that, open Steam, and from the Library, right-click on New World. Next, switch to the General tab and disable the Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game option. Furthermore, you should also disable overlay options for other overlay apps like Discord, GeForce Experience, and such.
Uncheck IPv6 –
You can also try unchecking your Internet Protocol Version 6 and then starting the game to see if the issues persist. To uncheck IPv6, head to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Now, click on your network and select Properties > Networking. From the list below, find IPv6 and uncheck it. Click OK, and then launch the game. Once you are done playing the game, you can checkmark that option again.
Verify game files –
For some, verifying game files has also worked wonders. If you haven’t tried this one, we suggest you do so. And it’s pretty easy to do this one. You just open Steam and then head to the library. Find New World in there and right-click on it to select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Restart your PC once the verification process is over.
Delete certain files –
By removing certain files, there’s a chance that you will be able to resolve this issue. So, head to the following locations and delete whatever files you find there:
- C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\AGS\New WorldC:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\AGS
- C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Temp
Do note that you might lose your game progress if you follow this method. If you are okay with that, then delete those files and restart your PC afterwards.
Perform a clean boot –
Performing a clean boot is also a good way to bypass these issues. And it only takes a couple of clicks. You can start by –
- Type in System Configuration in the Windows search bar and open it.
- Next, switch to the Services tab and select Hide all Microsoft services. Now, click on the Disable All button and select Apply.
- After that, switch to the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- In the Startup tab of Task Manager, disable every single startup-enabled item. Close Task Manager after everything’s done.
- Switch back to the Startup tab of System Configuration and select OK. Restart your PC to end the process.
Perform a clean installation of your GPU drivers –
This is quite a common workaround for issues like this and might prove very helpful in dealing with them. To perform a clean installation of GPU drivers, head to the official website of the GPU manufacturer first and then get the latest drivers from there. Next, start the installation process by opening the recently downloaded file. On the installation option section, select Custom Installation, and then checkmark the Perform a Clean Installation option. The name might vary depending on which GPU you are using, but the outcome will be the same.
Whitelist the game from Windows Defender/Firewall –
While Windows Defender is a great tool for safeguarding your PC, it’s not without its faults. It’s been known to block apps and games, resulting in issues like this. The best thing you can do to prevent this is to go to Windows Settings > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection. In the new window, scroll down and click on Ransomware Protection. Next, click on Allow an app through Controlled folder access. This time, click on Add an allowed app to browse and add New World’s .exe file.
You can also make sure that Windows Firewall doesn’t block internet access for New World by:
- Open Windows Settings > Windows Security > Firewall & Network Protection.
- Click on Allow an app through firewall in the next window.
- Now, before we can do anything, you need to click on the Change Settings button and give admin access when prompted.
- Next, find New World in the list below. If it isn’t there, simply click on “Allow another app..” to browse and add the game’s .exe file to the list.
- Checkmark both Private and Public options for New World. Finish the process by clicking on OK.
Rollback your GPU drivers –
Sometimes, installing the latest available drivers can itself be the cause of issues such as this. It’s an unfortunate thing, but it’s manageable. All you need to do is roll back those drivers. You can just head once again to the official website of the GPU manufacturer and get the previous driver. Next, install it, and then launch the game to see if you still encounter these issues.
Increase Virtual Memory –
Increasing your system’s Virtual Memory could also prove effective enough to get rid of these issues. To do that, type in advanced settings in the Windows search bar and open View Advanced System Settings. In the new window, switch to the Advanced tab and click on the Settings button located under Performance. Once again, switch to the Advanced tab in the new window and click on the Change button located below. Now, uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drivers. Select the drive where you have installed the game and check the Custom Size option below. Calculate and enter the correct size as instructed below:
- Initial size (MB): 1.5 x Total RAM
- Maximum size (MB): 3 x Total RAM
Lastly, restart your PC to finish the process.
Install C++ Redistributable –
Don’t ever try to delete C++ Redistributable. By some mistake, if you got them deleted, head to this website and download the latest C++ Redistributable files. Next, install them, and then run the game.
Repair EasyAnti Cheat –
Repairing EasyAnti Cheat is another workaround that could provide helpful results. To do that, open Steam and right-click on New World to select Manage > Browse local files. Open the EasyAnti Cheat folder located there and right-click on the EasyAntiCheat_Setup file. Select Run it as an administrator and click on Repair Service. Don’t forget to select the correct game from the drop-down menu.
If the issue still persists, open the setup file and select Uninstall (bottom left corner). After the anti-cheat is uninstalled, click on Install Easy Anti-Cheat.
Ensure that the game is running on dedicated GPU –
This one is mainly for people with both an iGPU and a dedicated GPU installed. Sometimes a game will continue using iGPU unless it’s explicitly commanded to use a dedicated GPU. The same might be the case here. To correct this mistake, type in Graphics Settings and open it. In the list presented below, see if you can find New World. If it isn’t there, add the game’s .exe file by clicking on the Browse button and heading to its installation directory. Once added, all you need to do is click on New World, select Option, and choose High Performance.
We certainly hope that you are now able to continue with your adventure in New World. If you’ve got a Port Failure error in the game, follow this guide. And, for more interesting guides like this, follow DigiStatement. Also, read: New World Fast Travel not working: How to fix it?
