NBA 2K24 is the latest addition to the long-running NBA 2K series by 2K. Developed by Visual Concepts Austin, it happens to be the 25th entry into the franchise and was released on September 8, 2023, for all major platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. Reviews for it weren’t that great, even compared to its predecessor – NBA 2K23. The reason for this was the aggressive microtransactions and the usual technical issues that still continue to plague the game. In fact, there’s this issue right now that is resulting in updates not working properly on PC, Xbox, and PS5.
An issue like this can be caused by a variety of factors. For some, it could be due to missing game files, while for others, it might be because the 2K servers not working as intended. So, can this issue be fixed? Well, let’s go ahead and find out.
NBA 2K24 update not working on PC, Xbox & PS5: How to fix it?
Use the following workarounds to fix this issue. Try not to skip, unless you have already used a workaround before.
Restart –
The first thing that you should do is restart your PC and console. Sometimes a restart is all you need to get around issues like this, so start with this method. If this method doesn’t yield any useful results, you can switch to another fix.
Reconnect network –
Some players were able to fix this issue by disconnecting from the Internet and reconnecting again. All you need to do is first disconnect your current network, and then reconnect it. Once that’s done, check if the update starts downloading or not. In case it doesn’t, try the next fix.
Verify the game’s files –
This is specifically for PC players. Since the PC version allows you to verify and repair game files via Steam, you can use that to fix them. To do this, you will need to launch Steam and then navigate to your Steam Library. Find NBA 2K24 in there and right-click on it. Select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
Check server status –
Make sure to check the game’s server status. You can click on this link to do just that. If the servers aren’t marked Normal, wait until they are, and then only start downloading the update.
Check storage space –
Before downloading and applying the update, we highly recommend that you check your system’s current storage space. If the storage space is low, you will encounter this issue. And in case your storage space is actually low, just delete some games or files. Once that’s done, the error should no longer appear.
Reinstall –
In case none of the aforementioned workarounds are of help, we suggest that you use the reinstall method. Just uninstall NBA 2K24 from your PC or console, and start a new download. And after it’s reinstalled, launch the game and hopefully the issue should be gone by now.
