Moto G8 Play

Android 11 is all set to soon make its arrival very soon around the month of October. While the excitement for Android 11 is all budding up among people, Android 10 updates have still not made it to some devices. Yes, many devices are currently running on Android 10 but there are a handful of devices still pondering on the waiting list. The American smartphone manufacturer Motorola has also been delivering Android 10 updates to its devices lately. Some moto devices are still waiting in the queue for their turn to receive the Android 10 update. The Moto G8 Play is one such device.

Kernel source code does really help a lot when it comes to developing custom ROMs, custom kernels, custom recoveries like TWRP, and whatnot. The source code is what is required to start the development of all of them. Without the source code, we can never come up with something that would be stable and run on the device. These also at times act as a reliable source to know about upcoming Android updates for devices. Well, Motorola has now released the kernel source code of Moto G8 Play. No, it’s not the one based on Android and is rather the Pie-based source code.

Moto G8 Play Android Pie source code released:

The Moto G8 Play was launched back in October 2019. The device boasts a 6.2 inch IPS LCD Display with a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. The device is powered by the powerful Mediatek MT6771 Helio P70M chipset. It comes with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The smartphone currently runs on Android 10. The device is powered by a massive 4000 mAh battery. The battery can power the device throughout the day with just a single charge with sufficient ease.

Talking about the camera, the device features a triple-camera setup at the back with a 13 MP sensor as the primary camera, an 8 MP sensor for capturing some cool ultrawide shots, and a 2 MP camera for depth sensing. On the front, the device has got a mere 8 MP camera for shooting some beautiful selfies. Overall, the Moto G8 Play does a good job of clicking some decent pictures.

Motorola has now officially released the Kernel source code for the Moto G8 Play. While you might get thinking if its the Android 10 source code, its actually not! This source code is instead based on Android 9 Pie. Motorola has hosted the source code in the open-source community site Github. Have a look at the official repositories in Github where the Android Pie source code for the Moto G8 Play is hosted:

Moto G8 Play Android 10 Update Status:

While users of the Moto G8 Play have been wondering about the Android 10 update for their devices, Motorola has instead pushed a Pie-based source code. Well, we don’t really know when the OEM will start rolling out the Android 10 update for the Moto G8 Play. Its been really long since users have been waiting for this update. At first sight, it felt like this was the Android 10 source code but its not.

Had that been the Android 10 source code, the release of the Android 10 update for the Moto G8 Play would have become imminent. Sadly, that’s not the case. Instead, given the fact that Motorola has come up with this Pie based source code, things don’t seem to be right. It clearly indicates that the release of Android 10 for the Moto G8 Play is still far. Users of the Moto G8 Play will have to wait even further to receive the update. Only time will tell what next is coming up for the Moto G8 Play in the near future.

Well, you can visit the Github repository from the link which is given above and download the source code based on Android Pie for the Moto G8 Play. This will help developers create custom ROMs, based on Android Pie for the Moto G8 Play. This also suggests that we will get to see a lot of new ROMs and kernels for this device very soon.

Stay tuned for more updates on further developments on the kernel source code for Motorola devices and more such related content. Share this article to all those who have been wondering about the source code and Android 10 update for the device.
