It was a long wait, but Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available to play. Officially launched on October 20, 2023, SM2 is a PS5-exclusive title and will not be coming to the PS4. Like its 2018 predecessor, the reception for SM2 has been highly positive, making it another great release for both 2023 and Insomniac as well. However, the game is not without its fair share of issues. A major one that’s been a constant source of frustration for many players is the Unable to Choose Fidelity Mode issue.
For the uninitiated, the PS5 comes with two modes: Performance and Fidelity. The former, as the name suggests, is meant to prioritize gameplay, while the latter is designed to give you the best visuals. However, due to a bug, players can’t seem to choose the Fidelity mode via the in-game settings menu at all. So, is there a fix for this issue? Continue reading to find out!
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Unable to Choose Fidelity Mode on PS5 Issue: Is there any fix yet
Players will need to try the following workarounds, as there has been no official acknowledgment from Insomniac’s side in relation to this issue. Make sure not to skip these workarounds unless you have already tried them before.
Complete the Intro mission –
Well, as per various reports, it seems like the issue resolves itself after players complete the intro mission of the game. So, go ahead and complete the intro mission first, and as mentioned in the troubleshooting part here, try changing the settings in the following aspects:
- In-Game
- The main menu outside of the game
- The PS5 default mode outside of the game
Restart –
If the issue persists, we suggest you perform a restart of the game. If that doesn’t work, try restarting the console.
Update –
Like almost any other game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also comes with a Day 1 patch. So, make sure to download it ASAP. Players who bought the digital version don’t need to do this because the game comes bundled with version 1.001.002. This update has to be manually installed for players who bought the physical version of the game and is highly encouraged by Insomniac, as evidenced by the tweet below:

Additionally, we also recommend updating the PS5 if you happen to be behind any system update.
Reinstall –
If none of the aforementioned workarounds provide any helpful results, it’s time to reinstall the game. So just save your progress and then delete the game. Put it on a new download, and once it’s installed, launch the game and check whether you are still unable to choose fidelity mode.
