Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DXGI Error Device Hung Is there any fix yet

The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DXGI Error Device Hung issue has been frustrating for many players, causing the game to crash unexpectedly during gameplay or even during startup. For a game that’s recently made its entry on the PC platform, this is the last thing that players want. So, now you might be wondering whether there are any potential fixes that you can try to resolve this problem and get back to enjoying the action-packed adventure. If yes, this is just the guide you need.

Don’t think that this crash is limited to PCs with low to medium specs! Even those particularly on high-end systems like your RTX 4080 Super and Intel i5 12400 have been facing these crashes. Crashes on such powerful hardware can be annoying, especially after eagerly anticipating its release. That said, let’s get to the fixes.

A new hotfix, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Hotfix v1.31.0.0, has been released to address the crashes that players have been experiencing, particularly when ray tracing is enabled. This update is based on player feedback and crash reports, aiming to improve stability while the developers continue investigating other issues. While it may not fix all crashes, make sure to download the latest update to see if it resolves any issues you’ve encountered. If updating does not fix the issue, here are other workarounds to try.

Ray Tracing

One potential fix is to disable ray tracing. Many players have reported that turning off ray tracing significantly reduces crashes, especially those related to DXGI Error Device Hung. While this may not completely eliminate all issues, it can help improve stability and allow you to play without constant interruptions.

Change Settings

Try these settings to improve stability: set Ray Tracing to High (instead of Very High) or turn it off, turn DLSS Ray Reconstruction off, disable Frame Generation, and launch the game in Exclusive Fullscreen Mode. Additionally, make sure you’ve installed the latest NVIDIA Driver 572.16. These changes can help eliminate crashes and make the game playable.

GPU Drivers

If you’re still experiencing crashes, checking your system’s GPU driver version is the next best step. If there’s a new driver update available, install it, as it may include stability improvements for the game. However, if you’re already on the latest version and still facing crashes, consider rolling back to an earlier driver—like NVIDIA 566.36, which some players have found to be more stable.

Paging File

Make sure to set paging to “automatic” and update DLSS to the latest version (310.1 via DLSS Swapper). To enable automatic paging file size, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory, then check “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.” To update DLSS, use DLSS Swapper, a tool that lets you install the latest DLSS version manually.

Frame Rate Cap

Another thing to try is disabling Frame Generation and locking the framerate to 60 FPS through the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Software. Additionally, updating to the latest DLSS DLL version may help improve stability. These changes can reduce the crashing issues.

Overlay

Do you use overlays? All overlays, including NVIDIA Overlay, Steam Overlay, and any others you may have running, could be the culprit. To fix this, start by turning off overlays completely. This includes the overlay features of Steam, Nvidia, Discord, and any other app that you are using. After disabling, restart your PC and then launch the game.

With that said, we hope this was informative and you were able to solve the DXGI error in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
