Watching your favorite Marvel superheroes in a featured film is one thing but roleplaying them and going against other players doing the same is completely another. Of course, we are talking about Marvel Rivals. In this game, you can fight and assemble a team of your Avengers and fight with other teams! That being said, it also features crossplay, and if you are looking to turn it off, here is how it can be done on PC, PS5, and Xbox consoles.
While cross-play does allow players on different platforms to compete together, it also has some disadvantages. For example, it can create imbalances, as PC players often have an edge due to precise controls with a mouse and keyboard, while console players might benefit from aim assist. These disparities can affect fairness and gameplay experience and that is why you might be looking to disable crossplay altogether in Marvel Rivals. But is it even possible in the game?
Marvel Rivals: Can you disable Crossplay? (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S)
Before we get into disabling crossplay, there seems to be some confusion on how the crossplay system has been set up in Marvel Rivals. Luckily, the devs have addressed this in a previous post, and here is how they have implemented crossplay.
How does Crossplay work?
The developers, by default, have enabled crossplay on all platforms. But the catch here is that players across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox will be able to connect and play together only in non-ranked modes like quick play. Yes, you heard that right. Absolute crossplay is limited to non-competitive games and it makes sense as well. Because a player with a mouse and keyboard setup is likely going to have an advantage over a console player playing on a controller. Therefore, for ranked modes, the developers have taken steps to ensure competitive integrity. Crossplay is disabled by default in the Ranked mode, and players are matched exclusively with others on the same platform.
Disabling Crossplay
There are a few key things to note when it comes to the option to toggle crossplay on or off on PCs and consoles. First of all, disabling crossplay is only applicable to non-ranked games. Also, PC players do not have the option to disable crossplay. For those playing on consoles, here is how you can turn off crossplay via the in-game settings menu.
- Open Marvel Rivals and go to Settings
- Head over to the Social tab using R1, and locate the Crossplay option.
- Toggle it off to disable crossplay. To re-enable crossplay, simply toggle it back on.
However, some players reported that on Xbox, they were unable to find the crossplay option in-game. This needs to be done via the console settings menu. Here’s how:
- First, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide menu.
- Navigate to the right until you find the settings for “Profile & system”, then select “Settings.”
- Under the “General” tab, choose “Online safety & family”. From there, select “Privacy & online safety.”
- Next, click on “Xbox privacy” from the options displayed. When your privacy settings appear, select “View details & customize”.
- Next, choose “Communication & multiplayer.” Under the setting labeled “You can join cross-network play”, change the selection from “Allow” to “Block”.
This console-only crossplay feature for ranked play only allows PlayStation and Xbox users to opt for matches either with a mixed console pool or strictly with players from their platform.
