So you have started your farming journey in Luma Island, and farming has caught your eye. Well, the question now is, how do you fish? If you are new to these types of games or generally confused about the fishing process, we have got you covered. Read this guide till the end to know everything about fishing in Luma Island.
Fishing mini-games in farming sims such as Stardew Valley and Palia have been very addictive and often involve a set of mechanics. For example, using the right bait, visiting the best location, and going to fish during a specific time in the game. So, what about Luma Island? What does the fishing mechanic look like in this game, and which fish can be found where? Let’s dive into the details.
Luma Island: How to fish, all fish locations, & types
First of all, we will go over the fishing mechanics and how you can catch fish in Luma Island. After that, we’ll take a look at all the varieties of fish available in the game and some information about each.
How to fish?
Fishing on Luma Island requires gathering the right tools and bait and learning the mechanics of the fishing minigame. Here’s a detailed guide to help you get started
- Equip your bug net to catch caterpillars or other bait creatures around the island. Look for small creatures moving along the ground. Once collected, these caterpillars will serve as bait for fishing.
- The next step is to prepare your fishing pole. So, select your fishing pole from your inventory.
- Attach the bait to your fishing pole and choose your fishing spot.
- Once you are at the shores or banks, you can cast your fishing line into any body of water to catch fish, but for better results, look for fishing nodes. These are areas where fish swim in circles.
- Cast your line by left-clicking. The bobber will land in the water. When a fish bites, the minigame begins.
- You will have to chase the fish with the bobber by moving your cursor to follow its movements using the (WASD) keys.
- Keep the bobber close to the fish until it bites completely. Once the fish bites, reel it in by holding or repeatedly clicking the left mouse button.
Fish Varieties in Luma Island
The game is still fresh off the shelves, and information about fish, the bait needed, and more importantly, their location are still scarce. So, for now, we have listed some of the fish from the town, the forest, and the mountain areas of the game.
The Town: There are three fish to find in the Town region. Also, all of these fish can be caught using a caterpillar as bait. Catching one is easy. All you have to do is use a bug net to catch the caterpillars from the ground.
- Penny Herring: Found mostly on the western shores of the map.
- Silver Snapper: Check the south-central region of the map for the Snapper. More specifically, visit the river towards the south of the map.
- Gilded Bass: This fish can be found in the southernmost and northernmost areas.
The Forest: Again, there are three fish to catch here, and all can be caught with a grasshopper as bait. You will have to use a bug net again on the grounds to catch a caterpillar.
- Barkfin: Found on the western side. In the lake and the rivers of the western forest.
- Ironjaw Pike: You will have to head to the extreme eastern shores to find the Ironjaw Pike.
- Moss Darter: Check the central lakes for Moss Darter.
The Mountain: For the three different types of fish in the mountain area, you will need earthworms for bait. Just like with caterpillars and grasshoppers, even earthworms can be caught off of the ground using a bug net.
- Ice Eel: Found in the southwestern lakes.
- Granite Grouper: You can find this fish at two different spots. First off, check the northwestern lake. Next are the eastern lakes.
- Frostfang: Remember the eastern lakes where Granite Grouper is found? Check the same for Frostfangs as well.
Other marine animals?
In Luma Island, each region not only has unique fish but also an exclusive water animal that can be caught by fishing in areas without visible fish using the correct bait. In The Town, you can catch a jellyfish with a caterpillar; in The Forest, a stingray using a grasshopper; and in The Mountain, a squid with an earthworm. Simply cast your line in open water to reel in these special creatures. But getting one is entirely based on luck.
With that, we hope that you are all set to fish in Luma Island. Anyway, if you found this guide helpful, stay in the loop with DigiStatment for more such gaming content. You can also click here to know how to fix the fence not placing issue in-game.
