Life is Strange Double Exposure Error UE-Chronos How to fix

Life is Strange: Double Exposure has been well-received, especially for players who enjoy choice-driven storytelling. However, like many games, it’s not without its technical issues. Recently, some players have encountered the “UE-Chronos” error, which has interrupted gameplay and frustrated fans. If you’re one of those affected, this guide will help you fix the issue for good.

The UE-Chronos error in Life is Strange: Double Exposure is affecting numerous players, causing the game to crash unexpectedly. This error typically arises after about 20-25 minutes of gameplay, even on systems that meet or exceed the recommended requirements. Once it occurs, players report that the game continues to crash frequently on subsequent attempts to relaunch it. Many in the gaming community have voiced concerns about this issue, making it clear that this isn’t an isolated problem.

Life is Strange Double Exposure Error UE-Chronos How to fix

Currently, there isn’t a definitive fix for the UE-Chronos error, and Square Enix has yet to release an official solution. However, several potential workarounds have proven effective for other players facing the same issue. While not guaranteed, these fixes are worth a try, and we recommend experimenting with them.

Basic checks

First, restart both the game and your PC, as this can clear temporary system glitches that may be causing the crash. Additionally, try running Life is Strange: Double Exposure with administrator privileges by right-clicking on the game’s icon, selecting “Run as administrator,” and confirming any prompts. This ensures the game has the necessary permissions, which can sometimes prevent unexpected crashes like the UE-Chronos error.

Update GPU drivers

Another essential step is to make sure your GPU drivers are up to date, as outdated drivers are a common cause of game crashes and performance issues. Visit the official website of your GPU manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) and download the latest drivers specific to your graphics card model. Once updated, restart your PC to apply the changes. Updated drivers often contain fixes and optimizations for new games, which can help resolve issues like the UE-Chronos error.

For AMD GPU Users

For players using AMD graphics cards, turning off all “Radeon” features in the Adrenalin software may help prevent crashes. Features like Radeon Anti-Lag, Radeon Boost, and Radeon Image Sharpening can sometimes conflict with certain games, potentially causing issues like the UE-Chronos error. If your drivers are up to date, but if the crashes persist, try rolling back to an older, stable driver version.

Graphics settings

Adjusting the graphics quality preset to High has helped some. Oddly enough, certain graphics settings, like the “Global Illumination Quality” setting on Low preset may contribute to crashes during specific scenes, such as when investigating the noise at the start of Chapter 2. By setting the graphics to High, you may bypass these problematic configurations, allowing for smoother gameplay and potentially preventing further crashes.

TAUU

Adjusting the Advanced Video Settings can also help with stability issues. To do this, open the game’s Settings, go to Video, and then select Advanced Video Settings. Here, you can use the mouse to drag the Resolution Scale slider down to a level that suits your system’s capabilities. The game also has TAAU (Temporal Anti-Aliasing Upsample) enabled by default, which may help smooth out visuals at lower resolution scales without significantly compromising quality. These adjustments can improve performance and reduce the likelihood of crashes.

Verify Game Files

To do this on Steam, go to your Library, right-click on Life is Strange: Double Exposure, select Properties, and then navigate to Installed Files, where you’ll see an option to Verify Integrity of Game Files. This process will check for any issues with the game files and replace them as needed, often resolving crashes and performance hiccups.

Check for Game and System Updates

Game updates often contain patches and optimizations that can address stability issues and fix bugs like the UE-Chronos error. Make sure you’re running the latest version of Life is Strange: Double Exposure by checking for any pending updates. Also, check if your operating system and GPU software are fully updated. These updates may include important compatibility improvements for the game.

Reinstall on a Faster Drive

If the UE-Chronos error persists, consider reinstalling the game on a faster, more reliable drive, ideally an SSD if available. Moving Life is Strange: Double Exposure to an SSD can improve load times, which may help stabilize performance and reduce crashes. To do this, uninstall the game, select your SSD as the install location, and reinstall.
