While League of Legends Season 11 brought a major overhaul of the items and the store, we took a look at the in-game player itemization choices. And the winner is ultimately one of the oldest in the game that remains the most popular, Zhonya’s hourglass.
Like every year, the League of Legends preseason brings its share of new features. This year, the in-game items have gone through a complete makeover: some have been deleted, others changed and finally some have remained completely unchanged and have just had the right to a small visual update.
As the ranked season kicked off three weeks ago, let’s take a look at the most popular item in the game. And it’s not a novelty that dominates the top of the table but a legendary item as old as the league, the famous Zhonya Hourglass.

Unique Active Property – Stasis: You become invulnerable and untargetable for 2.5 seconds, but you cannot perform any other actions during this time (120 seconds cooldown).
It is not a surprise that the item is chosen so often. It’s a staple on many mages and remains a great defensive option for this class while providing them with power. It appears in 12.4% of summoner inventories, from Iron to Challenger.
This trend also helps to show that the new Mythic items have not completely supplanted the older ones and that Riot Games, in a way, has fulfilled part of its contract with updating the items and the store for season 11. While there are some items that will undoubtedly need adjustments in the future, the studio seems to be on the right track to make big changes soon.
