Zero Obedience
One workaround that has worked for some players is to let Mutt’s obedience drop to zero, causing him to run off. After that, fast travel to the Zhelejov fast travel point, wait a minute, and he should reappear and become interactive again. While some speculate that attacking him might speed up the process, it’s unconfirmed—and understandably, not everyone wants to take that approach. If you’re stuck, try letting his obedience naturally decline and see if this method works for you.
Talk to the innkeeper
Another possible fix involves sending Mutt to the Zhelejov tavern and then speaking to the innkeeper. Even if Mutt remains stuck and unresponsive, the innkeeper, Lawrence, should have an option to “pick up your dog”. Selecting this option reportedly allows players to praise Mutt and have him follow them again. Another potential fix involves traveling to Tachau, visiting the blacksmith, and then sleeping using the save method. One player reported that after resting for a night, they were able to interact with Mutt again the next day. Another player mentioned that they traveled to the blacksmith, crafted a sword, and then slept in a bed at that location. Upon waking up, the “Talk to Mutt” option was gone, but they were able to press ‘V’ to praise him instead.
Outdoor Laundry
Another workaround that worked for a player involves a combination of steps. First, they sent Mutt home and retrieved him from the inn in Zhelejov, but that alone didn’t fix the issue. After that, they traveled to the outdoor laundry in the forest between Zhelejov and Tachau, near a small waterfall where some soap could be found. After washing their clothes there, they were immediately able to praise Mutt again.
Sleep and Feed
Another player has discovered a step-by-step method that worked for them. First, sleep anywhere—but do not send Mutt home at any point until the fix is complete. After sleeping, feed him, then go to his behavior settings and set it to “Free”, followed by switching it to “Heel”. Once these steps are done, the “Praise” option should appear
