Another day, another game. Chinese video game developer Bingobell released their newest game on May 4, 2023, under Steam’s Early Access program. Titled Kaku: Ancient Seal, it’s an open-world action-RPG game where you take on the role of Kaku, who departs on a journey to restore balance to his land. The developers have clarified in their Steam Early Access FAQ that Kaku: Ancient Seal will remain in early access for at least six months and that the final release of the game is already planned for the latter half of 2023. However, due to it being such a new release, there are lots of unknown factors about the game, many of which players want to know and get familiarised with. One such is whether a multiplayer/co-op release is planned for the game.
Co-op and multiplayer games have skyrocketed in popularity ever since the pandemic. The rise of games like Among Us and Fall Guys has contributed a lot to this. Multiplayer games had a good enough foundation before, but after the pandemic, we have been seeing more and more demand for such games. So, does Bingobell intend to include multiplayer/co-op mode in their game? Do they even have plans for it? Let’s find out!
Kaku: Ancient Seal Multiplayer/Co-op Mode Release Date: When is it coming out
Currently, Bingobell doesn’t have any plans to include multiplayer elements in Kaku Ancient Seal. This was stated in a Steam discussion post by Kakuzp, one of the developers of the game. Kaku: Ancient Seal is in the early stages of development, so it doesn’t make sense for the devs to try and include a multiplayer/co-op mode when there’s a lot more important content to be added. The devs didn’t entirely abandon the idea either. In a Steam announcement post on May 2, Bingobell stated the following:
Unfortunately, we will not be adding a multiplayer mode to the game. Our current plan is to make the game the best it can be as a single-player adventure, and we’re aiming to release the official version as soon as possible. Perhaps we can implement multiplayer in a future sequel though? Time will tell!
As you can see, they could introduce multiplayer, but it’s most likely that it will be done for a sequel. For now and until its full release, Kaku: Ancient Seal will remain a purely single-player experience. But what if there’s a strong demand for a multiplayer/co-op mode during the early access phase? Well, we can’t really say for sure. The devs have clearly stated their goal for early access, which is to deal with bugs and release more content. And even if the community demands it, we would need to wait until the game’s full release to see what the devs think of the idea.
Implementing a multiplayer/co-op mode in a game is no easy task. More so for indie studios that don’t really have that big of a development team. It’s not entirely impossible though.
