Jagged Alliance 3 marks the latest mainline entry into the long-running Jagged Alliance series from the 1990s. Before the release of JA3 on July 14, 2023, the series had been mostly carried out by spin-off titles, as the last major title, JA2, was released back in 1999. The reception of Jagged Alliance 3 has been pretty great, with many considering it a worthwhile alternative to XCOM. However, some players seem to be encountering issues like crashing, stuttering, freezing, and not launching during their playthrough.
Issues such as these come with any new title. Bugs and errors are intrinsic to modern gaming at this point and are hard to effectively eliminate. But they can also be dealt with using some good workarounds. Many of these are explained in this guide. Follow it along, and you will not be experiencing any crashing, stuttering, freezing, or not launching issues in Jagged Alliance 3 on your PC.
Jagged Alliance 3 Not Launching, Crashing, Stuttering & Freezing Issue on PC: How to Fix it
Since such issues are currently being reported by many while playing the game, we are sure that the developers will be releasing a patch fix soon. But until they release an update addressing these problems, you can try the following workarounds:
Restart PC –
There’s a very good reason why turning something on and off again is the first thing suggested for most issues. It’s simple, quick, and literally has no downsides. However, if restarting doesn’t work, then follow the next method.
Uninstall Epic Games Launcher –
Some players were able to fix these issues in the game by uninstalling the Epic Games Launcher from their system. For some reason, the launcher has been causing crashes and other kinds of issues that could only be fixed by uninstalling it. Do so, and you will most likely have fixed the issue in JA3.
Verify files –
One of the moderators of the game’s Steam Discussion forum also suggests that players try verifying the game files. This will help you know if you have any missing or corrupted files in the game and will promptly replace them. You can do this by opening Steam > Library > Jagged Alliance 3. Now, right-click on the game to select Properties. Next, head to the Local Files tab and select the Verify integrity of game files option.
Lower in-game Graphics settings –
If you are able to launch the game only to face stuttering issues, then consider lowering the graphics settings. Your PC might not be able to handle the game’s load, which is why it is stuttering.
Update GPU drivers, and install the latest DirectX version–
Maintaining up-to-date graphics drivers is a great preventative measure for issues like this. If you haven’t updated your GPU drivers in a long time, do so as soon as possible. You can visit your GPU manufacturer’s official website to get the latest available drivers from there. Also, make sure that you have the latest DirectX version installed on your PC. You can head here for the same.
Check minimum requirements –
One simple reason why you might be encountering these issues could be simply because your PC doesn’t meet the minimum requirements of the game. Check and see if that’s the truth. Here are the minimum requirements for Jagged Alliance 3:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 & 11 (64-bit)
Processor: Intel Quad Core or AMD Ryzen with 3 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX12 compatible card with 2GB of VRAM, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 950 or AMD Radeon R7 370 with 2GB of VRAM
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 20 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible
Additional Notes: Some modern integrated GPUs from Intel, and all AMD Ryzen integrated GPUs are compatible, but performance may be low
Reinstall game –
This is the last drastic step. If none of the aforementioned workarounds work, then reinstalling is the next best option. Maybe, after a fresh installation, the issues get fixed.
