Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio continues to create one banger after another, and their latest, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, is the same. Released on January 25, 2024, it’s the ninth mainline entry into the Like a Dragon series, previously known as Yakuza. Available on Windows, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, this latest title is an RPG with a focus on two popular characters from the series: Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu. The game sure is a ton of fun, as it’s already sold 1 million units since its release. But like any other newly released game, there are some questions that players seek answers to. And a major one happens to be whether the game is CPU- or GPU-intensive.
Optimization is a big topic nowadays, thanks to most developers not doing a good job at it. While technologies like DLSS and FSR have certainly helped advance gaming, they’ve also kind of made most developers put optimization on the back burner. From the Dead Space Remake to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, there are a lot of games out there that should have been put through more QA tests. And with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth released, players now want to know if they should be worried about optimization and find out if the game is CPU or GPU-intensive. Is Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth CPU or GPU intensive
Besides gameplay, Ryu Ga Gotoku’s latest, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, is also a great game in terms of optimization. Just like previous Like Dragon titles, this latest entry into the series also doesn’t really need that many specs to enjoy it to the fullest. However, what you would certainly need is a lot of storage space, thanks to that 82GB storage requirement.
Going by player accounts, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth runs smoothly on all “modern” GPUs, with little to no optimization issues. To add to that, Dark Side of Gaming (DSOG), published a PC performance analysis of the game on January 29, 2024, which detailed the game’s performance on a number of different GPU and CPU cores. The result? Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth was unplayable on dual-core CPUs without SMT (simultaneous multithreading). However, with SMT, the game ran at 60 FPS at 1080/Max Settings. As such, it was recommended to have a CPU with four threads to play Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth comfortably. Something that the game’s minimum requirements already mention:

As for GPUs, the results were quite impressive, with a card like the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 offering an enjoyable experience, with some fps drops here and there. Mind you, this is all despite the game using Denuvo. All in all, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth appears to be a CPU-intensive title, but it is also advised that you use a decent GPU to get the most optimal performance.
