Discord is a thriving place for conversations. It can be efficiently used in any field for communication. Gamers use it for in-game voice chat, developers use it to form communities, etc. We all know that Microsoft has launched the all-new Windows 11 after 6 years. However, users have complained about Discord Overlay not working correctly on the new OS. We will help you to resolve the issue.
Fix Discord Overlay issue
- Press the Win+X keys to open the options menu.
- Click on search and then type in – tskmgr
- Once the task manager appears, run it as an administrator.
- In case it opens in quick mode, click on More details located at the bottom.
- In this regular view, click on files.
- Select run new task.
- Now, click on browse.
- Go in the C drive and then inside the Windows folder.
- Inside the folder, open the system32 folder.
- Scroll down to find the file named cmd. Select cmd and click on open.
- In the run new task screen, check the box for giving administrative privilege while running the command prompt.
- Once the Command Prompt window opens, type in gpuupdate.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Now, type chkdsk <OS installation drive>
- If the OS is installed on the C drive, type in chkdsk c: and press enter.
- Wait for the process to finish and then close all windows.
After this is done, open the Discord app. Head over to user settings. Scroll to the bottom of the list and open Game Overlay. Click on enable in-game overlay. In the Activity status, if your game is not listed, click on add game and select the game. Then close the app and restart it again.
Now, head over to settings once more and navigate to Advanced and turn off the hardware acceleration. Click on OK and close the app. This should fix the overlay issue altogether. In the worst-case scenario, if the issue is not resolved, try to reinstall discord. All that’s left now is to bring your friends and enjoy the games.
