Arrowhead Game Studio’s latest title, Helldivers 2, had quite an interesting launch, to say the least. While the game is certainly fun to play, especially with friends, the launch had a plethora of issues, ranging from matchmaking to crashing issues. That’s not all, though. Players have also been complaining about facing some problems with VOIP, and this guide here will help you deal with that.
Currently, it’s unclear what’s really causing this issue to occur. For some, the issue could be due to missing game files, while for others, the cause could be the mic. Now, whatever the issue here might be, an issue like this needs to be fixed ASAP. So, without much further ado, let’s go ahead and find out all the possible fixes for this issue.
Helldivers 2 VOIP Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
For now, the following workarounds are all we have. Try these until Arrowhead releases an official fix.
Set your microphone as the Default device –
The very first thing that we recommend you do is set your microphone as the Default device. You can do that by following the instructions below:
- Right-click on the Speaker icon on the taskbar and select Sounds.
- When the Sound window opens, switch to the Recording tab.
- Now, make sure that the microphone you want to use has a green tick on it. If it isn’t, just right-click on the microphone of your choice and select Set as Default Device, along with Set as Default Communication Device.
- Next, just click on Apply and OK.
Change the Push to Talk key –
For this one, what we suggest you do is check your default Push to Talk key. Next, select the Change Bindings option and then change it to some other key. Now, press the new Push to Talk key and see if you can use VOIP. If this doesn’t help, try the next workaround.
Verify game files –
An issue like this can also be the result of the game having some missing files. The only fix for this is to simply verify and repair the game files. If you don’t know how to do that, just open Steam, navigate to your Steam Library, and right-click on Helldivers 2. Now, select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Once the files are repaired, launch the game and see if the issue persists.
Check your Voice Chat option –
A simple cause here could be simply that you have some other Voice Chat option enabled. So, what we recommend you do is open the in-game settings, switch to audio, and then check what the Voice Chat option is set to. Note that Voice Chat currently has five sub-options: Open Microphone, Pust-to-Talk, Push-to-Mute, Muted, and Disabled. If it’s anything besides Open Microphone or Push-to-Talk, set it to any of these two.
Use Discord –
Well, if VOIP still isn’t working for you, then we suggest you use Discord as a sort of alternative. Many players are already using it, so you wouldn’t have much trouble finding other players. You can join the official Helldivers 2 Discord server and check out the Matchmaking channel to connect with other players.
Update –
Players should make sure that both the game and the audio drivers are up-to-date with the latest version. This could possibly help you resolve this issue so check if there are updates available. And if there’s one, go ahead and install those updates.
Make sure Microphone Access is turned on –
Another cause for this particular issue could be that Microphone Access isn’t enabled, resulting in VOIP not working as intended. For this, just open Windows Settings, and switch to Privacy & Security. Now scroll down and click on Microphone. In the next window, enable microphone access if it isn’t already turned on already.
Well, that’s all the workarounds we have for this issue. Players can also take a quick look here if they want to know whether Helldivers 2 has DLSS and FSR 3 support.
