The hype for Rockstar’s GTA 6 is now greater than ever. For a long time, fans have been theorizing the game’s release date, so it’s no wonder that the hype reached a new point when Rockstar confirmed its active development in February 2022. And with that came a lot of questions. Among these questions, a major one is what the pre-order price for the game is going to be.
The only game to rival the insane popularity of the GTA series is Minecraft. In fact, GTA V alone is the second-best-selling game of all time, with 190 million copies sold, dwarfed only by Minecraft’s 300 million sales. It is safe to say that GTA 6 is going to sell like hotcakes. And in anticipation of that, let’s see what the pre-order price is going to be for this highly anticipated title.
GTA 6 pre-order price: What it will be?
Honestly, at the time of publishing this, the available information on GTA 6 is miniscule. We don’t even have a release date for the game, let alone its pricing. There was a rumor flying a few weeks ago saying that GTA 6 was going to cost $150 for players, and that’s a very laughable bogus claim. No studio, in their right mind, would price their standard version of a particular game that high.
Development cost and Pricing trends
It’s true that over the past few decades, developmental costs have increased a lot compared to what they were during the early 2000s. Furthermore, it’s also true that game prices haven’t really changed that much since video games became mainstream. Only recently have we started to see AAA games priced at $70. No matter how much a game’s developmental and marketing costs may be, a competent studio would never price the standard version at $150 or even think about crossing the $100 mark. That would be just plain stupid. Even for a die-hard fan, that’s a lot of money they’d be parting ways with.
GTA 6 Pre-order cost speculation
So, what’s the GTA 6 pre-order going to be priced at? Well, looking at the current market trends, it’s safe to say that the standard or base edition of the game will be $70 or $80. As for that $150 thing, it might just be the price for a premium edition or something akin to that. Now, we don’t know just how many editions of the game there will be up for pre-order. Although we are expecting to get a standard, premium/deluxe, and Collector’s Edition. The last one is the most expensive since it’s sure to come with a lot of goodies. Apart from that, there’s also this current trend of offering early access to a game for players purchasing any other edition besides the standard one. Starfield and COD: Modern Warfare III are the most recent examples of that. And we are sure that GTA 6 will also follow that same trend.
There’s a lot we don’t know about one of the most anticipated games of this decade. But starting this December, we are going to start receiving a good amount of information on the game since Rockstar has confirmed that it will share the first trailer for GTA 6 sometime in early December 2023.
