Google’s Camera app was released on April 16, 2014. It was under development since 2011 by a team led by Marc Levoy for image fusion technology in Google Glass. It was initially released for all devices running Kitkat 4.4 or higher but later Google limited the app to only devices manufactured by Google itself under the Pixel lineup. Google usually updates the app in 3-6 months with improvements, new features and fixes.
Although the app can be sideloaded through camera ports unofficially, to be used on devices that are not manufactured by Google. These unofficial ports also brings some of the new features to older Pixel phones.
