Google’s Camera app was released on April 16, 2014. It was under development since 2011 by a team led by Marc Levoy for image fusion technology in Google Glass. It was initially released for all devices running Kitkat 4.4 or higher but later Google limited the app to only devices manufactured by Google itself under the Pixel lineup. Google usually updates the app in 3-6 months with improvements, new features and fixes.
Although the app can be sideloaded through camera ports unofficially, to be used on devices that are not manufactured by Google. These unofficial ports also brings some of the new features to older Pixel phones.
Google Camera App Features
The GCam app is known for its amazing image processing algorithms. The app can take advantage of long exposure shots to bring light into photos even in darker enviourments.
Let us tell you about some other features of the GCam app:-
Smartburst – This feature is very simple to use and can be activated by holding down the shutter button. When the button is held down, upto 10 pictures are clicked within a second and the best ones are highlighted to choose from after the button has been released.
Photo Sphere – This feature allows the user to capture a 360° Panaroma photo of their surroundings.
Google Lens – Through this feature, the user can transalate text which is in front of their camera, identify plants and animals, scan barcodes and other things.
Google Camera 8.2 APK Release Date
As we told you, Google releases the update for the GCam app every 3-6 months. GCam’s 8.1 version released last year in October 2020. So we can expect an update with possibly new features, improvements and bug fixes soon. Google, as of yet has not officially released a statement but we will update you as soon as the next version of GCam the app is released.
