Fortnite can be a very hardware demanding game when it comes to Battle Royale. With new updates and contents pouring into the game, it is quite obvious that now the game will need better hardware to run properly. However, Fortnite Devs have included a Performance Mode in the Settings menu which can slightly increase your game’s performance. But it is not quite easy to enable the option as you might think. So we are here to provide you with a guide on how to permanently enable the Performance Mode(Alpha) to boost your game’s performance.
Fortnite- Enabling Performance Mode(Alpha) Permanently
You might think that it is an easy task since the Performance Mode can be enabled by going into Settings and switching the Rendering Mode to Performance Mode(Alpha), right? But that’s not the case because when you restart your game, the Rendering Mode will be turned back to the previously selected option-Direct X11/12.
This occurs because the config file of your Fortnite game is set to Read-Only. So no matter how many times you change the option, it will still be changed to the default one after your restart your game. So, to fix it we have to remove the read-only option on the config file. Follow the steps given below to do so.
- First, open the Run window by pressing Windows key+R
- Then type “%localappdata%” and press Enter. This will take you to the database of the apps on your computer
- Find the FortniteGame folder there and follow the given path- Saved>Config>WindowsClient
- In there you will find the GameUserSettings.ini file. Right-click on it and click on Properties
- Now, find the Read-Only option in the Properties menu and uncheck the option.
This will enable you to change the settings of your Fortnite game without resetting it every time you restart. So, launch Fortnite and select the Performance Mode(Alpha) in the Rendering Mode and restart the game. After the restart, you will see that the Performance Mode(Alpha) is still enabled. Enjoy!
