IronOak Games’ latest release and the sequel to their debut title, For The King 2, didn’t have as smooth of a launch as the developers hoped for. While it was nothing like what Cities: Skylines II and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor had, the issues in the game were severe enough to land the game reviews on the mixed side of things. And this guide, in particular, will focus on one of those issues. The multiplayer not working issue to be exact.
Well, there are a lot of variants of this issue. Some are getting softlocked in multiplayer, while others see the multiplayer option grayed out. Then there are instances where players are simply unable to connect to the game in multiplayer. Suffice it to say, it’s the type of issue that shouldn’t be left unchecked. So, is there a fix for it? Continue reading to find out!
For The King 2 (II) Multiplayer Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
Well, fortunately, since the developers are aware of the issue, we are expecting an official fix soon. But until that happens, here are some workarounds for you to try:
Make sure you are in the same game version as your friends –
Whenever you encounter any multiplayer-related issue, the first thing you should do is check whether you and your friends are playing the game on the same version. A version mismatch happens to be one of the most common causes of a lot of multiplayer-related issues, so only follow other methods if you and your co-op buddies are on the same version and still facing issues.
Update the game –
Over the past few days, IronOak has released several hotfixes addressing a lot of issues with the game, along with many multiplayer-related ones. That’s why, if you happen to be behind on updates, we suggest you download them ASAP. Now, if you already have the latest available updates installed, try the next workaround.
Change servers –
It seems like changing servers is a pretty common workaround when dealing with such types of issues. Because of that, we recommend you try doing the same in-game after heading over to the Server menu of the Multiplayer option. If this resolves your issue, then great, but if the opposite is true, then try the next fix. Additionally, you should know that the server region is set to Null by default, so don’t forget to change it.
Allow the game through the firewall –
If your firewall has blocked internet access for the game, then you can expect such types of issues to be more common. Luckily, you can fix that in just a pinch. Basically, what you need to do is:
- Open Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Firewall & Network Protection.
- Now, select Allow an app through Firewall, and in the next window, click on Change settings. When asked for admin access, choose Yes.
- Next, find For The King II in the list below. If it isn’t there, just click on Allow another app and add the game.
- After that, select both Private and Public options. End the process by clicking OK.
Create a Lobby without password –
If the issue persists, try starting a new lobby, and this time, make sure you don’t include a password option. Now, have your co-op friends join through the server list and see if you are still encountering the same multiplayer error. You can even try making a public game, and then trying again. Wait for a while and see if any players join in.
Reinstall –
If, by now, you are still experiencing this issue, then the only other way to fix it is by simply reinstalling the game. After you have done a fresh install, launch the game and see if the issue persists. Also, make sure everything in this particular directory is deleted before you install the game again: %AppData%\LocalLow\IronOak Games\For The King II.
