Square Enix’s latest Final Fantasy 16 has turned into a critical and financial success for the Japanese video game development studio. Yoshi-P and the team went on to correct the mistakes of XV and outdid themselves with this sixteenth mainline entry into the long-running Final Fantasy series. The game has already sold more than 3 million copies worldwide and doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Now, as with any other Final Fantasy game, farming can be a chore if you don’t know where and how to look. And if you are reading this article, then you must be looking for a way to get and use Darksteel in the game.
Farming is a big part of games like this. It is essentially how the developers make you spend more time in the game. It’s the “carrot and stick” approach. And it works perfectly. So, how do you get and use Darksteel in Final Fantasy 16? Let’s find out!
Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI): How to Get & Use Darksteel
For the uninitiated, Darksteel is a rare material in Final Fantasy 16 that is used to craft the Gotterdammerung, the strongest weapon in the game. Now, unlike most items in the game, you don’t have to worry about having to farm lots of them. Players will only be able to farm and find two Darksteels in the entire game.
In order to farm Darksteel, you will need to defeat two Notorious Marks in the game. Particularly – Thanatos and the Prince of Death. Both Thanatos and the Grim Reaper– Prince of Death, are Rank A bounties. And as such, players will need to be sufficiently equipped in order to complete these two bounties.
Thanatos – Usher to the Underworld
This is A-Rank Level 42 Hunt. However, in order to make the boss appear on the Hunt board, you will need to complete the Brotherhood main quest first. After completing the quest, teleport straight to the Kretov Obelisk or the Gilded Path Obelisk and then travel to Titan Wake (Dhalmekian Republic). Defeating Thanatos will net you XP, Ability Points, Gil, and Renown. You will also get Darksteel of course!!
Grim Reaper- Prince of Death
Grim-Reaper, as the name itself suggests, is a Lich enemy. You will be able to find the boss by fast traveling to the Northreach Obelisk in Sanbreque. Next, head northwest out of the settlement toward the middle of Cape Orsiere. Spotting the Grim Reaper should be fairly easy once you reach it. However, you must first complete the Under New Management I and II side quests and also have a chat with Jill during the “Back to Their Origin” quest for this boss to appear on the Hunt Board. It is a Level 40 boss, and like Thanatos, you should be careful and sufficient with your preparation. The boss likes to use his scythe quite a lot, so watch out for that. Defeating the Grim Reaper will net you Renown, Gil, Experience Points, Ability Points, and one Darksteel.
How to use Darksteel?
In order to use Darksteel to craft the Gotterdammerung, players will need to complete the Blacksmith Blues IV quest to get its recipe. Once you complete it, you will get the crafting recipe for Gotterdammerung. Besides two Darksteel, you will also need a Ragnarok Sword, three Orichalcum, and one Primitive Battlehorn. Find them and craft the Sword that will befall all who oppose it.
