Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore multiplayer online role-playing game in the first person, combining the genres of FPS, combat simulator and RPG with MMO elements that was developed by Battlestate Games and released on 27th July, 2017. It has a cool story-driven walkthrough set in Northern Russia where two military factions fight for control. The game in an attempt to make the experience more realistic rolled out some changes in the last patch that were not taken well from the community.
Let’s first follow up on the changes that were done and why it was such a disaster-
The new weight system:
It is safe to say that the players were not happy to learn that the loot they gained by killing players actually lowered their chances at winning. Just one single gun could create a stamina regeneration problem where you have to sit still to regain lost stamina.
Head Bobbing:
The headbobbing effect though might seem realistic to spectators but is actually very annoying to play with. Players complained about the need of such an update, saying things like they made these changes because they couldn’t come with anything actually innovative.
Money Vanishing:
A huge bug where players randomly lost money from their inventories. Some people suspected foul play, thinking its a hack but it turned out to be a big in-game problem.
Skill Reset:
Hard earned skill points from the players over hours of playing the game were taken away and it was clear that players weren’t happy demanding a roll back of the update.
Flea Market Level:
Keeping Flea Market access level so high is punishing to the new players trying to grasp the game.
So did BSG listen to the community?
In a way, yes, BSG made some changes in the few hours after the update, listening to the backlash of the community.
They decreased the head bobbing, working on fixing the money disappearing bug, decreased the Flea Market access level and also increased the weight threshold for overweight effects.
- Ingame money disappearing bug must be fixed already (we are thinking about compensation for those who lost money).
- Fleamarket gate is lowered to 10 LVL
- Increased weights for overweight effects (now overweight starts from 40 kg and blends to 70 kg (was 30 and 60 kg) (yes, we can tweak it, yes we said that we will tweak it during tests and balancing), increased stamina capacities and so on.
- We did something to lower headbobbing effect while being overweight (also this headbobbing will be linked to headbobbing slider in settings soon)
- There is no 60kg tank battery. it was an old weight that was fixed shortly right after update
We are making and made several changes already:
1. Ingame money disappearing bug must be fixed already (we are thinking about compensation for those who lost money).
2. Fleamarket gate is lowered to 10 LVL#EscapefromTarkov— Battlestate Games (@bstategames) March 12, 2020
