Elden Ring inappropriate activity detected error How to fix it

So, fellow Tarnish, you are done with the Elden beast and you can finally piece the lore together to understand The Lands Between and now there isn’t much to do. Well, the long-awaited DLC for Elden Ring is out and there is new lore and mysteries to uncover. The DLC has been named “Shadow of the Erdtree” and will revolve around Miquella and Malenia. All this addition to the game has brought in new and returning players and with that, some are facing the “inappropriate activity detected” error. Well, since you are reading this guide, chances are that you have encountered the same. So, are you wondering how to fix it? Well, let’s find out.

This error is not new and players have reported facing it before as well. With the DLC out, a lot more players have been facing this error. This, obviously, has convinced many that the DLC is the culprit. Anyway, have the developers spoken about this? Is there any workaround or fix to get back in the game without it flagging you for “inappropriate activity”? Continue reading for all the details.

Elden Ring inappropriate activity detected error How to fix it

Unfortunately, there is no official fix for this and you will have to make do with some player-suggested workarounds that have surfaced in the community. While not guaranteed to work for all, these workarounds are surely worth a shot.

Restart the Game and Run as Administrator

First of all, close Elden Ring and Steam completely. Right-click on the Steam shortcut and select “Run as Administrator”. Then, launch Elden Ring from Steam. Running the game with admin privileges can help overcome permission-related issues that might trigger the error.

Mods?

Mods can alter game files and interfere with normal operations, triggering the error. If you are using any mod, be it a Rune multiplier or a No FP mod, remove all of it. If you modded the game earlier, make sure there are no lingering files in the game’s directory by restoring the original game files. To do this, you might need to delete modded files manually or use a mod manager to uninstall them. After doing so, launch the game to check if the issue persists.

Avoid Using Cheat Engine

We understand that Elden Ring can be tough and sometimes downright depressing. Still, using a Cheat Engine to make the game easier can be more harmful in the long run! So, no matter how many tries you have to make to take down a difficult boss, be an honorable Tarnished and avoid Cheat Engine at all times!

Check for Pending Patches

The developers have been releasing patches to fix bugs and improve game stability. So, make sure your game is up-to-date by checking for updates on Steam. Go to your Steam Library, right-click on Elden Ring, select Properties, then click the Updates tab. Keep the “Always keep this game up to date” toggle on and install any pending updates.

Verify the Game Files

Verify the integrity of game files through Steam to restore any missing or corrupted files. In Steam, go to your Library, right-click on Elden Ring, select Properties, go to the Installed Files tab, and click “Verify Integrity of Game Files.” This process will check and repair the game files, potentially resolving the error.

Allow the Game and Easy Anti-Cheat through Firewall/Antivirus:

Firewalls and antivirus software can block essential game components, including Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). To ensure EAC and Elden Ring run smoothly, add them to your firewall and antivirus exceptions list. For Windows Firewall: Open the Control Panel, go to System and Security, and then Windows Defender Firewall. Click on “Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.” Find Elden Ring and Easy Anti-Cheat in the list, and make sure both private and public checkboxes are checked. Do the same for your third-party Antivirus Software as well. In your antivirus software settings, head to the exceptions or exclusions list and add the Elden Ring installation folder and the Easy Anti-Cheat folder to the list.

Changing Language Settings

Switching your system language to English might also be of help, as it was for some players. All you have to do is open Windows Settings and head to Time & Language. Click on the “Time & Language” option in the settings menu and select “Language”. Under “Preferred languages”, add “English (United States)” or any English variant.
Set the newly added English language as the default language. Restart your PC to apply the changes.

Repairing Easy Anti-Cheat

Perhaps it is the EAC app that is acting up. So, repairing Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) is also worth trying. To keep it simple, right-click the game in your Steam Library, select Manage, and then Browse Local Files. This will take you to the directory where the game files are installed. Here, inside the EAC Folder, look for an EasyAntiCheat.exe, and run it. In the EAC window, follow the prompts to repair the app. After repairing, launch the game to check if the issue persists.

start_protected_game.exe

Another workaround that worked for a few players was to use a different exe to launch the game. Again, head to the installation folder of Elden Ring and then launch the game using the “start_protected_game.exe” file. This exe will launch the game with all the necessary anti-cheat protections active and will not call you for inappropriate activity.

Reinstall the Game

If all other workarounds fail, reinstalling Elden Ring is the only option you have. First, uninstall the game through Steam and also remove any residual files. Then, reinstall the game from your Steam Library and launch it to see if this fixes the issue.

Well, those are some workarounds that could be helpful for the Inappropriate activity detected Error in Elden Ring. Anyway, for more gaming reads like this, follow DigiStatement. Read more: Life is Strange Double Exposure Pre-order benefits & more details
