EA Sports FC 24 Controller/Gamepad Not Working Issue: Is There Any Fix Yet?
EA Sports FC 24 is available on PC via Steam, EA App, and Epic Games Store. In this guide, we have shared workarounds that are common to all platforms, along with some that are exclusive to each. So, make sure to try them according to the platform you own the game on.
Disconnect and reconnect the controller
If your controller isn’t responding while you’re trying to play the game, you need to make sure that it’s connected properly. Simply disconnect and reconnect your controller once, and check if it works. If it doesn’t, try the next method.
Restart the game and restart your PC
If the issue persists, simply restart the game and see if it solves the problem. If the issue persists, then try restarting your device and then launch the game. Before you restart, ensure that you have disconnected your controller.
Add the game to Steam (Non-Steam users)
If you downloaded the game via the EA App or the Epic Game Store, you can try and use Steam to launch the game and see if it fixes the problem for you.
- If you don’t have Steam on your PC, simply download and install it and then create an account.
- Go to your Library and scroll down to locate the “Add a game” option. Select it and then click on “Add a Non-Steam Game” from the drop-down menu.
- Find EA Sports FC 24 from the list and click on it.
- If you don’t see the game in the list, then click on Browse and then go to the game’s installation directory.

- This will add the game to the list of programs that you can add to Steam. Now, simply click on “Add Selected Programs”, and the game will be added to Steam.
- Launch EA Sports FC 24 using Steam and see if the issue persists.
Add the EA App/Epic Games Launcher to Steam (Non-Steam users)
As the previous workaround was all about adding the EA App version of the game to Steam, you can try adding the EA App itself to Steam and then launch the game. To do this, follow these steps:
- Close the EA app, and then follow the first three steps from the previous workaround to add the EA app to Steam.
- If the application isn’t included in the list, then click on Browse.
- Open your C: Drive and then open Program Files.
- Here, click on the Electronic Arts folder and then open the EA Desktop folder.
- Find the EA Desktop application, select it, and then click on Open.
- Now, follow the last two steps mentioned in the previous workaround to run the game and check if the controller works
Note: If you are using the Epic Games launcher, follow the same steps to add it to Steam, and then launch the game.
Run Steam/EA App/Epic Games Launcher as an administrator
If there are certain issues with Steam, the EA App, or Epic Games Launcher that might restrict the controllers from working properly, you can bypass them by running the client as an administrator. Follow the instructions given below to do the needful.
- First, close the clients: EA Desktop App, Steam client, Epic Games Launcher if they’re running.
- Type Steam/EA App/Epic Games Launcher in your Windows search box and right-click on the first option that reads the same.
- From the drop-down menu, click on the “Run as administrator” option.
- Finally, open the client, run the game, and see if the issue persists.
Delete the Settings folder from your EA FC 24 Documents folder
If the issue is being triggered by certain in-game settings, then you can fix it by erasing the Settings folder and running the game. You can do so by following these steps:
- Open File Explorer, and go to Documents.
- Click on the FC 24 folder to open it, and here, right-click on the Settings folder.
- Click on Delete from the drop-down menu to erase the folder.
- Now, disconnect and reconnect your controller to make sure it’s connected properly.
- Follow the previous workaround to run Steam as an administrator and then launch the game from Steam.
- Check if the issue keeps occurring.
Disconnect other peripherals
If you have multiple devices connected to your PC, they might interfere with your controller and cause it to not work properly. To counter this, simply disconnect every other USB device and then try to run the game. You can also try using a wired controller instead of a wireless one to troubleshoot the problem.
Configure the controller (Steam users)
If the controller isn’t working properly, you can configure the settings and check if this fixes the issue for you.
- Open Steam and click on the Steam option in the top-left corner of your screen.
- From the drop-down menu, click on Settings, and then go to the Controller tab.
- Under the External Gamepad Settings tab, disable Steam input for all controllers.
- Now, under this same tab, enable Steam Input for the controller that you’re using.
- For example, if you’re using an Xbox controller, then click on the Enable Steam Input for Xbox Controllers option.
- Restart the game and see if the issue persists.
- Contrarily, simply enable the generic controller support and see if it solves the issue.
Disable or enable Steam Input (Steam users)
- Open your Steam client and go to Steam Library.
- Find EA FC 24 from the list of installed games and right-click on it.
- From the drop-down menu, click on Properties.
- Go to the Controller tab and open the drop-down menu corresponding to the “Override for EA Sports FC™️ 24” option.
