Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO has finally moved past its Advanced Access phase and is now available to all players and fans. If you’ve recently grabbed your copy and are all set to dive into the action-packed world of this new Dragon Ball game, you might be disappointed to find that online battles aren’t working as they should. You’re not alone in facing this issue! Many players are facing this same issue. So, is there a fix for this problem? Let’s find out!
The issue players are facing with Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO is when the game proceeds to the character dialogue phase after selecting a character and entering an online match. However, just when players are about to take control, a connection problem occurs, causing the game to kick them out of the match. This results in a black screen with a “connection lost” error, making playing with friends, joining tournaments, or participating in any online activities impossible. So, how to fix it? Here’s everything you need to know.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Online battle not working Issue: Is there any fix yet
Since the full release of Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO, many players have been going through this connection issue during online matches. Unfortunately, the developers have yet to officially address the problem. In the meantime, several potential fixes might help resolve the issue, and they’re worth trying out.
First Steps
First things first, restart your device and check if your internet connection is stable. Restart your router, switch to a wired connection via Ethernet for a more stable connection, or try switching to a different network if possible. After ensuring your internet is running smoothly, relaunch the game and see if the online mode starts working. This should be the first step before trying out other potential fixes.
engine.ini fix
One potential fix that has worked for some players involves deleting the engine.ini file of the game, forcing it to generate a fresh one upon launch. To try this, head over to this directory: “C:\Users[YourProfileName]\AppData\Local\SparkingZERO\Saved\Config\Windows”. Here, look around and you should see the engine.ini file. Delete it, then launch the game. This will auto-generate a new engine.ini file. Hopefully, with the new engine.ini file regenerated, you will not face online errors with matchmaking.
Server status
Another important step is to check the game’s server status, especially now, since it just had its full release and the servers might be overwhelmed by the influx of players. To get updates on the server status of the game, visit the official Dragon Ball Games X page. If the server is under stress or maintenance, you have no other option but to wait it out.
VPN
If you’re using a VPN, it could interfere with your connection to Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s online servers, so it’s best to disable it and ensure it’s completely closed via the Task Manager. However, if you rarely use a VPN, you might want to try enabling one and switching to a different location. Sometimes, connecting through a VPN can bypass network restrictions or issues in your area, allowing you to access multiplayer without problems. Give it a try and see if changing locations helps with the online match connection issues.
DNS
Switching to a different DNS server can sometimes resolve connection issues in online games. Your default DNS provided by your ISP might be slower or unreliable. To try this fix, you can switch to a more stable DNS service like Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1).
- Begin By clicking on the Start menu and selecting the Settings icon.
- Within the Network settings, click on “Properties” of your internet connection, scroll to “DNS server assignment”, and click on “Edit”. Here, switch from automatic DNS server assignment to “Manual”.
- Once you’ve found the DNS settings, you’ll see fields where you can input DNS server addresses.
- Replace the existing addresses with alternative options like Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220).
- After entering the new DNS server addresses, make sure to save your changes. There should be a “Save” or “Apply” button at the bottom of the settings page. Click on it to confirm your changes.
Open these ports
One player who sent a support ticket to Bandai Namco received a response suggesting that certain network ports should be opened to resolve the connection issue. These ports are:
TCP
- 27015
- 27030
- 27036
- 27037
UDP
- 4380
- 27000
- 27031
- 27036
Now, let’s go over how to open these ports both on PC and Xbox:
PC
- Open Windows Defender Firewall and go to Advanced Settings
- In the left pane, click on Inbound Rules, and then, in the right pane, select New Rule.
- In the New Inbound Rule Wizard, select Port and click Next.
- Choose TCP or UDP based on the port you are opening (for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, you’ll need both TCP and UDP).
- In the Specific local ports box, enter the port numbers you need to open, separated by commas (e.g., for TCP: 27015, 27030, 27036, 27037 and for UDP: 4380, 27000, 27031, 27036).
- Select Allow the connection, then click Next.
- Choose when to apply this rule: Domain, Private, or Public networks. If you’re unsure, select all three. Click Next.
- Give your rule a name (e.g., “Dragon Ball Sparking Zero TCP Ports”). You can also add a description if needed. Then, click Finish.
- Repeat the same process for the UDP ports by following the above steps but selecting UDP instead of TCP.
Xbox
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings. Make note of the IP address and other digits you see. Take a picture of this screen as the info will be needed later
- Check NAT Type and if it’s anything other than “Open,” you will have to forward ports through your router which is a longer but a sure-shot way of opening ports. It is also the one we recommend even if your NAT type is set to default on your Xbox.
- Back to forwarding ports, similar to the PC steps, access your router’s settings via a browser.
- Add the ports listed above in the “Port Forwarding” section, making them apply to your Xbox’s IP address (the one you noted down earlier).
- Finally, save the settings, then restart both your router and Xbox to ensure the changes take effect.
