What is Doki Doki Literature Club?
Doki Doki literature club is a visual novel game developed by Team Salvato. The game was initially distributed through itch.io and later became available on Steam. The game was released on September 22, 2017. Doki Doki Literature has a very simple gameplay but a complex story starting from act 2. It is a slow-paced game in the beginning and whole of act 1 and plays out like a generic dating-sim. Act 2 starts showing true colours and becomes disturbing pretty soon. As it said on the official website as well “This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed.”
Just Monika!!
The game takes a left turn as you enter act 2. You feel weird at first as the game basically restarts but slowly and surely starts to be aimed at a mature audience. The game turns into psychological horror and with heavy use of breaking the fourth wall. The game itself contains suicide, self-harm, mentions of depression, and graphic images of death. The character Monika takes over most of the choices and you compulsorily have to choose Monika. She even forces the user to delete the character files of other choices. This game took over not only the otaku community but also the general gamer.
Doki Literature Club 2 Release date for 2021:
Dan Salvato posted on Twitter “This will be the year I reclaim my happiness so I can deliver it to others! My goal is to fully return to doing the things I enjoy, such as making games. First releasing new DDLC content (not a sequel), then blowing the dust off my next original VN which has been on hold for 2 years.” This was tweeted on the 2nd of January 2020. Due to pandemic, the plans have been delayed and then on 1st January 2021 he replied to the original tweet saying, “All objectives failed, but progress was made. 2021 is the year.” Even though a new game or a sequel may not be coming but we are sure to get some new DDLC content this year for sure!
