Does Pokemon Go work with Apple watch (2024)

When it comes to games with augmented reality, since its launch in 2016, Pokemon Go has defined the way people interact with their environment through AR. The game’s success has led to the development of many accessories designed to improve the gameplay experience, from Pokemon GO Plus devices to wearables. Speaking of which, you might be wondering: does Pokemon Go work with the Apple Watch? Well, here we are with all the details on this matter.

We understand why you would want to play Pokemon Go on your Apple Watch. Receiving game notifications and tracking activity on your wrist makes it easier to play without always checking your phones. The game’s fitness features, like tracking steps to hatch eggs and earn Buddy Pokémon candy, match well with the Apple Watch’s health tools. For those who love fitness, combining workouts and Pokemon Go with the Apple Watch’s features just seems to go hand in hand. But is this possible? Keep reading till the end to find out.

Unfortunately, Pokemon GO no longer supports the Apple Watch. Yes, you heard that right. And you might not have been in touch because, since 2019, Niantic, the game’s developer, decided to discontinue the Apple Watch app. They made this decision to focus on improving the Adventure Sync feature, which allows players to sync their steps and activity data from their phone’s health apps, including Apple Health, directly into the game. All the tracking, earning Buddy Candy, and hatching can be done on a mobile device instead of using two separate devices. By focusing on Adventure Sync, Niantic is trying to simplify gameplay, making sure that Trainers no longer need to split their activities between their phone and Apple Watch.

Now, to continue tracking distance, you can use Adventure Sync to sync your phone’s fitness apps, like Apple Health. Adventure Sync integrates these features directly into the game, making it easier for players to stay active and engaged. This will allow you to track your steps and earn in-game rewards without needing devices like Apple Watches. On the bright side, you can still use your Apple Watch with Pokemon Go like any other fitness tracker. You just won’t be able to control the game through your Apple watch.

Will the support come back?

It’s already been five years since Niantic dropped Pokemon Go support for the Apple Watch. As of now, there has been no information or hint suggesting that support will be reinstated. Until Niantic themselves provide a clear update on this matter, it appears that the Apple Watch will not be supported with Pokemon GO, anytime soon. Players will need to rely on Adventure Sync and their phone’s fitness apps to track their activity and progress in the game.

And that is all the information we have on the support for Apple Watches in Pokemon Go. We hope this was informative.
