Diablo 4 fenris error

Developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, Diablo 4 is perhaps one of the most anticipated games of 2023. Looking at the gaming experience that the previous games of the Diablo series offered, fans really had high expectations for Diablo 4. However, while the developers did not disappoint the fans with the visuals, storytelling, and gameplay, the performance of the game has raised a few eyebrows. Although these are still early days and the developers will probably fix the errors, these issues are troubling the fans at large. One such bug in Diablo 4 is the Fenris error. This error continues to crash the game and returns the players to their home screen on PC. If you’re facing the Fenris error in Diablo 4, keep reading this article to find out how to fix it.

The Fenris error is a recurring error, and Diablo 4 players across the globe have reported this issue. Evidently, the Blizzard Support Forum is filled with players complaining about this particular error. Due to the Fenris error, the game keeps crashing, and players receive the following error message: “The application has detected an unexpected error”. As per the official customer support team, this problem is probably caused by the game trying to launch itself on your system’s iGPU. Irrespective of the causes behind this error, is there really a way to fix it? Let’s find out!

Diablo 4 Fenris Error: How to Fix it?

Fenris Error in Diablo 4

While there’s no official fix for the Fenris error in the game, you can rest assured since the developers have acknowledged the problem, and are investigating it. Meanwhile, you can try some of the workarounds mentioned below to fix it.

Check if your device meets the system requirements

Every game comes with its own system requirements and Diablo 4 is no different. Therefore, you need to ensure that your PC meets the minimum requirements to run the game. If your PC doesn’t, this is the reason why you are encountering the Fenris Error. The minimum system requirements to run Diablo 4 are as follows:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows® 10 version 1909 or newer
  • Processor: Intel® Core i5-2500K or AMD™ FX-8350
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660 or AMD Radeon™ R9 280
  • DirectX®: Version 12
  • Storage: SSD with 90 GB available space
  • Internet: Broadband Connection

Reinstall the game

Reinstalling the game can help you fix the Fenris error. Although it is quite a generic process, it still has helped a number of players fix this problem. So, give this method a try.

Repair game files

The issue can be caused by missing or corrupt game files. So, repairing them might fix the problem.

  • To repair game files, launch the Battle.net client, locate Diablo 4, and right-click on it.
  • Here, click on Options and select Scan and Repair.
  • The Battle.net client will automatically search for and replace the missing or corrupt game files in Diablo 4. After the scan is completed, restart your PC, and launch the game. If even this doesn’t fix your problem, try the next workarounds.

Decrease resolution and FPS limit

Some players have shared that playing the game at a lower resolution helped fix the Fenris error. Yes, this is going to be annoying, given that lowering the resolution affects the visual experience. However, if it can fix the error and provide smooth gameplay, then why not? Furthermore, consider lowering the in-game FPS limit to 60. To do so, head to the Graphics tab of the Options menu in Diablo 4 and find the Maximum Foreground FPS setting. Make sure to set it to 60 or less.

Update your BIOS and alter RAM speed

Several players on the Battle.net forum and Reddit have mentioned that updating the BIOS can fix the Fenris error. Additionally, optimizing the speed of RAM can also help in this case.

  • Enter the BIOS settings of your PC and find the RAM Settings option.
  • Once located, click on it and opt for Advanced Settings.
  • Here, you will be able to change your RAM speed. Alter it to a lower value, save the changes, and restart your PC. Then launch Diablo 4 and check if the error persists.

Enable High-Performance mode

Since the official support team has mentioned that this error can occur due to the game running on your iGPU and not the dedicated GPU, you need to make sure that this is not the case. So, for this, open the Graphics Settings menu in Windows Settings, and under the Graphics performance preference option, click on the Browse option. Now, head to the game’s installation directory and select the game’s .exe file. Now, once it is added to the list, click on it and select the Options button. Here, choose the High-Performance option, and you are done.

Update GPU Drivers

Since the above method makes sure that Diablo 4 runs on your dedicated GPU, you now need to ensure that the drivers for your GPU are updated to their latest version. For this, you can head to the official website of your GPU manufacturer and download the latest drivers, or you can use the GPU’s support software (GeForce Experience/AMD Radeon Software) for the same.

Tweak Game Files

If you are using the Razer Chroma app, chances are that this application is causing the issue. So, to fix this, you need to head to the following directory: Documents\Diablo IV\LocalPrefs.txt. Here, open the LocalPrefs.txt file with Notepad and find the “DisableChromaEffects” option. Now, set its value to “1”. After this, save the changes and launch the game.

Turn off Adaptive Sync

For players who have an AMD graphics card, turning off Adaptive Sync can fix the Fenris error. So, for this, open the AMD Radeon software and click on Display. Next, click on Specs and scroll down. Here, you will locate the Adaptive Sync option. Turn it off and then launch the game to check whether the issue persists.

So, these are the workarounds that should fix the Fenris error in Diablo 4. Try them until the developers fix it for good. Well, if this guide provided you with all the information you needed, keep visiting DigiStatement for more.
