Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is finally here, and Sledgehammer has done quite a good job in developing the remake. However, the campaign has received a considerable amount of flak from both players and critics alike due to the game’s handling of a certain character. But aside from all that, MW3 is a good enough COD title, featuring similar gameplay to other COD games, especially 2022’s MW2. Among the many features and gameplay mechanics returning in MW3, one of them happens to be split-screen multiplayer.
Splitscreen multiplayer is quite popular among many COD players. And why wouldn’t it be? Having the ability to play with your friends on the same screen as you both decimate enemies after enemies is nothing short of an enjoyable experience. The multiplayer part of MW3 is a much-awaited release, and many are hoping for a similar fun time as they had in Modern Warfare 2. And that includes the split-screen too. So, how do you play split-screen multiplayer in COD: Modern Warfare 3? Well, continue reading to find out!
COD Modern Warfare 3 (MW3): How to play Split-Screen Multiplayer
While Spliscreen does exist in Modern Warfare 3, it remains exclusive to the multiplayer side. However, even then, there are a few caveats to it. In MW3, split-screen multiplayer is limited to team game modes, meaning you will have to leave out any hopes for playing free-for-all in split-screen. Furthermore, you also need to have two PlayStation Plus, or Xbox Game Pass/Live Gold accounts to play the online split-screen multiplayer on the console, while local play doesn’t require a subscription.
Now, like previous MW titles, you get two split-screen multiplayer options in MW3: Local and Online. To play split-screen, you just need to connect a second controller to the console. Following that, press the PS or Xbox button on the controller and assign it to your second PlayStation or Xbox account. After you are signed in, head over to the Multiplayer mode (select either local or online) in-game and press the designated button to enter split-screen mode. Now, you can enjoy split-screen multiplayer in COD: Modern Warfare 3. Once again, we would like to reiterate that split-screen is not available for Campaign and Zombie modes. Also, the split-screen mode is limited to two players per device, so you will have to suffice with that.
It’s a bummer that solo or single-player mode doesn’t support split-screen. But that’s just how previous COD titles have been. While multiplayer split-screen can be fun in and of itself, many in the community were hoping that Activision would let players enjoy split-screen in the campaign and zombie mode this time around. Unfortunately, that is not the case here.
