Paradox Interactive’s recently published Cities: Skylines 2 isn’t looking particularly good right now. The game has a lot of optimization and performance issues and is probably one of the below-average releases of 2023. Well, although the gameplay is top-notch, the issues related to the game’s performance are what make it a horrible experience. There’s just so much technical mess that even players with high-end builds are struggling to get constant FPS in-game. Now, one of the many issues that players seem to be complaining about happens to be the Power Lines/Electric Cables Not Working issue.
Your cities need electricity to run. It’s a major part of the day-to-day functioning of your cities, and without it, you will be unable to do basically anything in the game. However, due to an unknown issue, players are having trouble managing their cities. As reported by many, both power lines and electric cables aren’t working as intended in the game. So is there a fix for this? Continue reading to find out.
Cities Skylines 2 (II) Power Lines/Electric Cables Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
Although it doesn’t seem like a bug, many players do believe it is. So, we have shared a bunch of potential workarounds to get rid of this issue. Try them out and check if any of them provide meaningful results.
Do a quick restart –
If you happen to be facing this issue for the first time, try doing a quick restart of the game and then see if the issue still persists. A glitch or bug could be the cause of such issues, and restarting usually does the job. However, if you still encounter this issue, then it might be gameplay-related rather than a simple technical one.
Check the basics –
Start with checking the basics first. Ensure that wires are connected properly. Also, don’t panic when you see the “Power Line not Connected” or “Electric Cable not Connected” message after building a wind turbine or power plant. All you have to do to fix that is connect those buildings with the proper wires to the rest of your network.
Connect to Transformer Station –
There are two types of electricity that you will be generating in the game – Low Voltage and High Voltage. The former is made by wind turbines and power plants, while the latter is produced by large power plants. You can’t just connect high-voltage electricity directly to the city and expect it to work. You need a Transformer Station for that. It transforms both low voltage into high voltage and high voltage into low voltage. So, don’t forget to place one before trying to connect high-voltage electricity to roads and all. Do know that a Transformer Station has limited capacity for how much electricity it can transform.
Manually connect your electricity cables –
One thing you need to keep in mind when it comes to electricity in CS2 is that buildings built or zoned alongside roads are automatically connected to the electricity grid. As for buildings that are not beside roads, they will need to be connected manually. So, check your buildings and connect the electricity cables accordingly.
Check your electricity production –
Maybe the reason why your power lines or cables are not working properly is due to the fact that you aren’t producing enough electricity. So, first, open the Electricity info view and check your production under Electricity Availability. If the consumption is nearing breaking point or has already exceeded it, make sure to build another source of electricity.
