The Callisto Protocol could have become the next Dead Space but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. In fact, the amount of optimization and gameplay issues it had during release turned away a lot of potential players. These days, the game has improved a lot but some issues still remain. And a major one happens to be an issue with the game not saving progress.
The game not saving a player’s progress is not something that can be taken lightly. While there have been lots of complaints about this issue, we are yet to know what’s causing it. Nevertheless, this issue needs to be addressed ASAP, and this guide here will help you with that.
Callisto Protocol not saving progress: How to fix it?
For now, you will have to make do with the following workarounds, since there are no official ones yet. So, try these and see which ones are of help.
Know the basics –
Callisto Protocol’s saving system is, to put it simply, terrible. In case you didn’t already know, your manual saves work a little different from what you usually see for other single-player titles. Instead of loading from where you performed a manual save, the game will just load at the last checkpoint. So, in a sense, your manual saves are just a copy of automatic saves. So, if you were wondering why the game is not loading from where you performed your last manual save, this is the reason. However, if the issue is more severe, then check out the next workaround.
Restart –
Sometimes saves tend to disappear for whatever reason. This is why some players recommend restarting the game. So, do that, and if you want, you can even go further and restart your PC and console. If this particular method doesn’t help, switch to another workaround.
Enable and Disable Steam Cloud –
This one is a pretty common method of dealing with save-related issues. However, as you might have guessed, it’s only for Steam players. So, if you have the game on Steam, open the store and right-click on the game. Select Properties, switch to the General tab, and see if the Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for Callisto Protocol option is enabled. If it is, disable it and then reenable it.
Verify files –
Maybe the reason the game isn’t saving your progress is that some important files are missing or have been corrupted. And the only fix to issues like this is to simply verify and repair files. And to do that, you need to:
Steam
- Open Steam and click on Library.
- Find Callisto Protocol and right-click on it.
- Select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
Epic
- Launch Epic Games Launcher and click on Library on the left panel.
- Now, select the three dots on the game’s tile and click on Manage > Verify.
Start a new game –
Simply starting a new game or saving a file can also help. As such, what we suggest you do is start a new game and try saving your progress. If the game saves your progress, then the issue was with your former save. If it doesn’t, then the issue lies with the game itself. If that is indeed the case, then you will need to use the next method.
Reinstall –
Unfortunately, if none of the aforementioned workarounds are of help to you, we recommend you reinstall the entire game. So, go ahead and delete the game. Start a new download and once the installation is done, launch the game. Now, see if the game saves your progress. If this doesn’t help, you can contact support.
And that’s all we have on this. Additionally, if you want to know about the game’s Windows 7 compatibility status, check out this guide. And, for more such content, keep following DigiStatement. Also read: The Callisto Protocol Stuttering & Low FPS Issue On PC: How to fix it
