Baldur’s Gate 3 long rest not working issue

If you play Baldur’s Gate 3, then you are probably aware of the importance of long rests in the game. While playing the game, your health and spell slots will deplete because of your actions. Performing a long rest practically means a good night’s sleep for the characters, which restores their stats back to normal. However, due to a bug in BG3, players are failing to use the long rest feature in the game. If you’ve been facing the Baldur’s Gate 3 long rest not working issue, we’re here for you. Keep reading this article to find out how to fix this bug in the game.

Bugs and errors have been a common occurrence in Baldur’s Gate 3 ever since the Early Access version went live back in 2020. Well, even though the developers have claimed this long rest bug to be a result of mods, it’s not really a recent problem. This long rest not being functional is a bug that BG3 players have faced during its EA phase. Following the full-version release of the game, the issue seemed to be resolved. However, recently, players have started experiencing this issue again, and they want to know if it can be fixed. Well, we do have a few workarounds that you can try if you’ve faced this error in the game. So, without further ado, let’s get right into it.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Long Rest Not Working Issue: How to Fix?

Baldur’s Gate 3 long rest not working issue

Ensure you have enough camp supplies

In order to initiate a long rest in BG3, you’ll need to have at least 40 camp supplies in your inventory. Failing to meet this quota will only let you complete a partial long rest, which can restore 50% of the boosts. Once you have ensured that you have sufficient supplies, follow the instructions to start a long rest.

  • Click the campfire icon at the bottom right corner of your screen. Then, select the crescent moon icon.
  • Click on the Long Rest option which will teleport you to your camp.
  • Once in the camp, click on the campfire and then click on “Go to bed” to start the long rest.
  • You can also have a chat with your party members in the camp instead of resting. However, this only occurs when they’re interested in having a conversation with you.

Load a previous save

If you have followed the first workaround and still can’t use long rest, it’s probably due to a bug. In that case, load a last save prior to your attempt to start the long rest and check if that works. If you still can’t use long rest, follow the next workaround.

Erase mod files

  • Go to File Explorer and open the following directory – Local Files (C:) > Program Files > x86 > Steam > Steamapps > Common > Baldur’s Gate 3 > Data.
  • Find the subfolder named “Mods”, and then erase it.
  • Then, follow this path in your File Explorer – Local Files (C:) > Users > YOUR USERNAME > AppData > Local > Larian Studios > Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • Erase the Mods subfolder from this folder as well.
  • Run the game and check if the issue persists.

Erase the Baldur’s Gate 3\LevelCache folder

If removing the mods didn’t work, then you’ll need to delete the LevelCache folder in the Baldur’s Gate 3 folder. So, follow this path: C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3\LevelCache, and delete the mentioned folder. After this, launch the game, and check if the issue persists.

Verify game files

If you’re still facing the Baldur’s Gate 3 long rest not working issue, then you need to verify your game files.

For Steam

  • Open Steam and go to your Library.
  • Locate Baldur’s Gate 3 and make a right-click.
  • From the drop-down menu, click on Properties. Then select Installed Files.
  • Select the “Verify integrity of game files” option and let Steam run the check.
  • Once the process ends, run the game and see if the issue persists.

On GoG

  • Open the GoG client and click on Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • Click on the Settings icon, and then locate the Manage Installation tab.
  • Here, click on Verify/Repair option to run the check.

Run Baldur’s Gate 3 as administrator

  • Locate the Baldur’s Gate 3 executable file in the game’s installation directory and right-click on it.
  • Click on Properties and then select the Compatibility tab.
  • Checkmark the box that says “Run this program as an administrator”.
  • Launch the game and see if the issue persists.

Use Vulkan or DirectX

Finally, you may need to toggle the API you’re using for Baldur’s Gate 3. If you’re running the game on Vulkan, switch to DirectX, and vice versa. After doing so, launch the game, and check whether the issue persists.

Well, these are all the potential fixes for the Baldur’s Gate 3 long rest not working issue. If you find this guide insightful, keep visiting DigiStatement for more such gaming-related content.
