Developer KEIZO’s 2D action RPG ASTLIBRA Revision just recently received its first DLC after being released back in October 2022. Titled ASTLIBRA Gaiden: The Cave of Phantom Mist, it’s a side story for ASTLIBRA, which promises 20+ hours of content starring a brand-new female protagonist. The standalone DLC saw its launch on February 13, 2024, and so far it continues to rake in incredible praise from critics and fans alike. However, the DLC does have some technical issues, and this guide here will help you get rid of one of them. The crashing during launch issue, to be exact.
No one really knows what’s causing this issue to occur so frequently. However, it’s severe enough that some players are holding on to buying the DLC after looking at the reports of DLC-related crashes. So, does that mean this issue can’t be fixed at all? Since there’s no official fix for this issue right now, you will have to make do with the following workarounds. Try these and find out which ones are of help to you.
Update –
Before trying out other workarounds, we highly recommend that you update the game if you haven’t already done so. Updating is a pretty common fix for issues like this one, so try this. And while you are at it, we also suggest updating your PC. However, if you’ve already tried this method and are still facing this issue, then switch to another method.
Repair game files –
An issue like this can also be the result of the game having some missing or corrupted files. If that’s indeed the case, then the only fix for this is to simply verify and repair the game files. Just open Steam, navigate to Library, find Astlibra, and right-click on it. Next, select Properties > Installed Files > Verify the integrity of game files. Once the process is complete, restart your PC and then launch the game.
Perform a clean boot –
You can also try performing a clean boot and see if that helps. Now, if you don’t really know how to clean boot Windows, you can try the instructions mentioned below:
- From your main screen, select Search and type in msconfig. When you see System Configuration, click on it and open it.
- Next, switch to the Services tab and tick Hide all Microsoft services. Then click on the Disable All button and select Apply.
- Now, switch to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager.
- After this, switch to the Startup tab and disable each item that’s marked Enabled. Once you are done, close Task Manager and System Configuration.
- You should now restart your PC and then launch the game.
Run the game in Compatibility mode –
Yet another potential fix for this issue is to simply run the game in Compatibility mode. That’s something you can do by right-clicking on the game’s exe and switching to the Compatibility tab. Next, tick the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” option. Now, select Windows 7 from the drop-down menu and then end the process by clicking Apply and OK. If the issue still persists, try switching to another Windows version from the drop-down menu and check if that works.
Add the game as an exclusion in Windows Defender –
A possible cause for this issue could be the Windows Defender of your PC. Adding the game as an exclusion will prevent the anti-virus from flagging Astlibra as malware and such. And to do that, you can use the following instructions:
- Open Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection.
- Next, click on Manage settings under Virus & Threat Protection settings.
- In the next window, scroll down and select Add or Remove Exclusions under Exclusions.
- After that, click on the Add an Exclusion button. Now, browse and add the game directory, and then launch the game.
If nothing else works, we suggest that you reinstall both the main game and the DLC. The reinstall method has proven successful at times, so give it a try and see if that helps.
