The Italians know their stuff about the motorsport and racing culture! Now, the Italian team is back with another Assetto Corsa game! Those into racing simulation might be familiar with that name! Now within a month of 2025, we have the latest installment, Assetto Corsa EVO, released through Steam in Early Access. That said, for some, the game is not launching or crashing during gameplay. So, if you too have been encountering this issue, you might be wondering how you can fix this, right? Well, let’s find out.
Game not launching and crashing issues as such are the most common types of errors to face in any game. Assetto Corsa EVO being in Early Access is still under development and hence, all these issues are understandable. What matters now is a fix! So, do we have one from the officials? What about player-suggested fixes? More details on the same are shared below.
Assetto Corsa EVO Game Crashing/Not Launching Issue: Is there any fix yet
In response to reports of crashing, the developer recommended submitting a bug report to help the team investigate the issue. Hopefully, the officials will look into the issue more deeply and work on a fix. That is about it as there aren’t any official fixes released. So, for now, a lot of players have been dealing with this and they have suggested some workarounds that are worth trying out. Until an official fix is released, these workarounds are your best bet.
First things first
Here are the initial steps for fixing this issue: Make sure the game is not running in the background and close all unnecessary background apps. Next up, check for GPU driver updates and install any available ones. You can visit the GPU manufacturer’s website to check for updates. Also, make sure the game is running on your dedicated GPU (if you have integrated graphics) by typing “Graphics” in the Windows search box to open the Graphics Settings menu, and from the list of installed programs that appear, select Assetto Corsa EVO and set it to “High Performance”.
Lower In-game settings
If the game is crashing only when you start a race, this workaround is for you. For this workaround, try adjusting your graphics settings. First, go to the in-game Video Settings menu if you are able to launch the game at least once and enable full-screen mode. Then, in the Graphics settings, set everything to very low. This workaround has helped some players. Also, once the game starts working, you can gradually increase the settings till you find the perfect balance.
Verify Game Files
If Assetto Corsa EVO crashes on startup, try verifying the game files via Steam. To do this, go to your Steam Library, right-click the game, select Properties > Installed Files, and click Verify integrity of game files. Steam will check for missing or corrupt files and replace them if needed. This can fix crashes caused by file corruption and has also fixed the issue for some. So, do give it a try.
One Drive Fix
Another potential workaround is to try disabling OneDrive backup for the Documents folder, as some games store configuration files there, and syncing issues can cause crashes. To do this, open OneDrive Settings by clicking the OneDrive icon in the system tray, then go to Sync and Backup > Manage Backup. Find Documents, toggle off the backup, and confirm. Once disabled, move any game-related files from the OneDrive Documents folder back to the local Documents folder if needed. Restart your PC and try launching the game again.
Delete ACE files
If the One Drive fix does not solve the issue for you, try deleting the entire ACE folder! The ACE folder and its contents can be found in the Documents directory. Just head over to C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\ACE, delete all files inside (or move them as a backup), and then restart the game. This forces the game to generate fresh configuration files, which may resolve crashes.
Create ACE folder
If the game is still crashing after the One Drive and deleting ACE file fixes, here is one more thing to try out. In Documents, try creating the ACE folder manually. Navigate to C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents, right-click, select New > Folder, and name it ACE. Some setups, especially with OneDrive enabled, may not auto-generate this folder, preventing the game from starting.
Antivirus
Perhaps it is your antivirus program flagging the game for malicious activity and causing it to crash or not launch at all. To fix this, you can check Windows Security for blocked access to protected folders. Open Windows Security, go to Virus & Threat Protection > Protection History, and look for an entry saying “App or process blocked: AssettoCorsaEVO.exe” with “Protected folder: %userprofile%\OneDrive\Documents”. If found, click Actions > Allow to grant the game access. This prevents Windows Defender from blocking the game’s files, which can cause crashes. Don’t forget to restart the game after making the change.
Firewall
You can also try disabling Windows Firewall temporarily. Open Windows Security, go to Firewall & network protection, select your active network (Private or Public), and toggle Microsoft Defender Firewall off. Launch the game to see if the issue is resolved. If it works, add the game as an exception instead of keeping the firewall off for security reasons.
Clear cache
A few affected players have found out that clearing the Steam Download Cache was what fixed the issue for them. So, clear your Steam download cache, as corrupted cache files can cause issues. To do this, open Steam, go to Settings > Downloads, and click Clear Download Cache. Steam will restart, and you’ll need to log in again. After this, launch the game and see if this lets you get past those crashing/not launching errors.
Download Visual C++ Redistributables
You can also try installing some of the required Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64) from Microsoft’s official website. You can download them by clicking here, install them, and restart your PC. Missing or corrupted Visual C++ libraries can cause crashes, and reinstalling them often resolves the issue.
Windows Page file (VRAM)
You can also consider increasing your Windows page file (virtual memory). To do this, go to Windows Settings > System > About > Advanced System Settings, then under the Advanced tab, click Performance > Settings. In the Virtual Memory section, turn off “Automatically manage paging file size,” choose your drive, and set both the Initial Size and Maximum Size to 16384 MB (16 GB). Click Set, then OK. Reboot your PC if needed and then launch the game to see if this fixes the issue.
BIOS fix
Here is another workaround for those technically sound folks. The workaround is to try updating your BIOS, as outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues. This is an advanced workaround, and the exact steps vary by motherboard model. If you’re using an MSI motherboard, you can update it via MSI Center or the BIOS menu. For other brands, check the manufacturer’s website for specific instructions. Be cautious, as incorrect BIOS updates can cause system issues.
Update/Reinstall
If none of the workarounds have been informative, check if any hotfixes or updates are pending for Assetto Corsa EVO. If the game is fully updated and you’re still experiencing issues, the last resort is to reinstall the game on a faster drive, such as an SSD, especially if it was previously installed on an HDD.
Those are all the effective workarounds that have been successful so far in fixing the crashing issues in Assetto Corsa Evo. We hope one of these solutions works for you and you will be able to get back into the game.
