Assassin's Creed Shadows Controller DisconnectingNot Working Issue Is there any fix yet

Are you an Assassin’s Creed fan looking to play the latest title in the series, titled Assassin’s Creed Shadows? If that is the case, you must have also explored feudal Japan using your controller. Well, if you are reading this guide, it is clear you have encountered the issue where the controller is disconnecting and not working properly. So, you might now be wondering whether there is a way to fix this problem. Keep reading till the end to find out.

While the controller is not working for some, for others, there is a bizarre controller issue where movement and camera controls become randomly misaligned. The left trigger (LT) unexpectedly controls the camera, while the left analog stick moves the character and the camera simultaneously, making the game virtually unplayable. So, how to fix it? Here are all the details.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Controller Disconnecting/Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet

Assassin's Creed Shadows Controller DisconnectingNot Working Issue Is there any fix yet

As of now, there is no official fix for this issue, and Ubisoft has not yet addressed it. However, this is not a new issue and there are a few potential workarounds that might help restore normal controller functionality. While these fixes aren’t guaranteed to work for everyone, they’re worth trying if you’re struggling with this frustrating problem.

First things first

Before launching Assassin’s Creed Shadows, make sure your controller is powered on and connected to your PC to avoid issues like unresponsiveness. If problems persist, try unplugging and reconnecting your controller, or if using Bluetooth, disconnect and reconnect it. Switching to a wired connection is also recommended for more stable input and to prevent random disconnects during gameplay.

Disconnect other devices

If your controller isn’t working properly in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, check for conflicting USB devices. Other peripherals like a flight stick, extra controllers, or even certain keyboards and mice might interfere with input. Try unplugging all unnecessary USB devices, then restart the game with only your controller connected to see if that resolves the issue.

Run as Admin and in Big Picture mode

Try launching both Steam and Assassin’s Creed Shadows with administrator privileges, as this can sometimes resolve controller detection issues. Right-click on Steam and the game’s executable, select “Run as administrator,” and then launch the game. Additionally, using Big Picture Mode in Steam can help. Open Steam, click the Big Picture Mode icon in the top-right corner, and launch the game from there.

Add game as Non-Steam (Epic Games Launcher/Ubisoft Connect Users)

A potential workaround for the controller issue in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is to add the game to Steam as a Non-Steam Game and use Steam’s Controller Support. To do this, open Steam, go to “Add a Game” → “Add a Non-Steam Game”, and select the game’s executable from its installation folder. Once added, launch the game through Steam, and Steam’s controller configuration should take over, fixing the misaligned controls.

Game Settings

You can also manually set the input mode in the game’s settings. To do this, go to Settings → Game Settings → Input Mode and change it from Hybrid to your specific controller type (Xbox, PlayStation, or other). Some players have reported that this resolves the problem, as the Hybrid mode may be causing conflicts between inputs. Try this if your controls feel unresponsive or misaligned.

Adaptive Controllers?

According to the official Ubisoft Page for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, certain adaptive controllers and other input devices are not officially supported by the game and may require third-party software to function properly. This means that while some generic controllers might work, they aren’t guaranteed to have full compatibility with the game. If you experience any issues with your peripherals, Ubisoft recommends reaching out to the manufacturer’s support team for assistance rather than expecting an in-game fix.

Disable Steam Input

Disable Steam Input if you have installed the game via Ubisoft Connect but running it through Steam. Some players have reported that Steam Input was interfering, causing unexpected behavior like a virtual keyboard popping up when clicking the left stick. To fix this, try disabling Steam Input in Steam’s controller settings. Once turned off, Hybrid mode in the game should work properly without conflicts.

Update and DS4

If you’re using an Xbox controller, updating it through the Xbox Accessories App can help. Download the app from the Microsoft Store, connect your controller via USB, and check for firmware updates. For PlayStation controllers, download the PlayStation Accessories App from the official PlayStation website, connect your controller, and update it if needed. Additionally, if you’re using a PS4 or PS5 controller, try using DS4 Windows to improve compatibility.

And those are all the effective workarounds that you can try to deal with the controller issues in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We hope this was helpful.
