Among us is a team-based game, which requires players to chat to figure out who is the impostor within them so if you’re having issues where the Text chat itself isn’t working then the game really has no meaning to it, we will explain in a step-by-step explanation how you can fix this issue and why it is occurring. This issue arises after the implementation of the quick chat wheel, which is usable by guest users who haven’t made an account and those who made an account but are below the age of 13. To fix the Text chat in Among us is rather simple but can get complicated from platform to platform, if you haven’t made an account yet then make one but make sure your age is 18+ to ensure that you can use the text chat.
Text chat fix for PC
- You will need to redirect to the Among us folder, you can find it in the following path file C:\Users\[username\AppData\LocalLow\Innersloth\Among Us\ or follow the steps below for an easier route
- Go to your Steam library and right-click on Among Us
- Select “Properties” and then select “Local Files”
- Then click on “Browse”
- Locate and open the file “playerPrefs” in notepad
- Look for the string of numbers indicating your birthday, for example, May 14, 2013, will be “13,5,2013”
- Change the birth year to make yourself over the age of 18, such as 1990
- Save the file by pressing “ctrl+s” or click on “file” and then “Save”
Text Chat fix for Android
Androids UI’s may differ a bit but the steps should be similar
- Go to settings in Android
- then select “Apps and Notifications”
- Locate and select “Among us”
- Once selected, tap on “Clear Data”
- Launch “Among Us” once done clearing data and select a new date of birth, this time making yourself over the age of 18
Text Chat fix for iOS
IOS doesn’t allow users to simply clear data of an app, hence you will have to delete the app and then reinstall it
- tap on the “Among Us” app and hold it
- tap on the cross to uninstall it
- Once uninstall, redirect yourself to the app store
- Reinstall Among us and start the game
- Once started put a new date of birth to make yourself above the age of 18
Once you’re done changing your age, then go to the in-game settings and select “Data” and under chat type select “Free chat”
You will be able to type in chat now and play the game with no issues.
