The wait for the next installment in the Age of Wonders series is finally over, as Paradox Interactive published Age of Wonders 4 on May 2. Released almost a decade later than Age of Wonders III, fans can now enjoy this as much as they like. And it’s honestly a great game too. Critics have been praising AoW4 for its solid combat, diverse options for units, and overall gameplay loop. If you want to try out the game right now, you can do so by purchasing it on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Windows. Since the game is such a new release, there are a lot of curious questions being asked around in the community forums and on Reddit. One of them is the location of saved files.

Save files, as the name itself suggests, are files where your in-game progress is saved. They are very important in games, as losing them would mean starting over. Developers these days usually include both auto and manual save features in their games, so as to make saving progress more convenient. Age of Wonders 4 does the same. According to TriumphJordi, one of the developers, in AoW4 you can have access to five manual saves and five auto saves. In addition to this, players also get one quick save and a game-start save. There are also some players who are reporting a saving bug, particularly those who purchased the game on Epic. So, where are these saved files located?

You can find the Age of Wonders 4 save files in the following directory-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\NUMBERS\1222970\remote\Save. Do note that this is for Steam users only. Furthermore, if you have installed the game on a custom path instead of the default one, you will be able to find your saved files by looking at the custom path. Now, if you are unable to locate saved files on the previous paths, you can check another one. Open your File Explorer > This PC > C: drive (most apps and games are installed here by default). Next, scroll down to locate the Users folder and click on your username folder. Open the Documents folder after that and search for the Paradox Interactive folder. Once located, click on it. Inside, you will see folders for Paradox games that are installed on your PC. Select the Age of Wonders 4 folder, and you will find your saved files here.

Meanwhile, on the topic of the Epic Games save bug, the devs at Triumph are already aware of the issue. Furthermore, they have already released a hotfix for this bug a few hours ago. So, make sure to update your game.

To add to the save file details, players can only have ten save slots per session. Why are the devs limiting save slots to only 10? We can’t really give a definitive answer. It’s an annoying issue too since auto-saves can quickly take up those limited slots. The only quick solution for this is to disable auto-saves for now. We do hope that the devs include more save slots via a future update, as the limited slots are not worth it at all.

Anyway, now you know where your in-game progress in Age of Wonders 4 is saved on your PC. For more such informative guides, make sure to check out DigiStatement.
