Age of Wonders 4: How To Change Language

On May 2, Paradox Interactive published Triumph Studios’ Age of Wonders 4. This is Triumph’s latest title after the release of Age of Wonders: Planetfall in 2019. This fourth installment in the long-running Age of Wonders series continues on with the 4x tradition of the previous games and tries to improve a lot on past mistakes. Critics especially loved the game, praising the overall gameplay loop and the substantial improvement in combat over the previous entries. Newcomers and fans of the series can try the game right now by purchasing it on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Windows. Additionally, there are lots of questions being asked in the community forums with regard to many game features and mechanics. One of those is related to the languages featured in Age of Wonders 4, and how to change them in-game.

From AAA games to indie titles, developers have started to include more and more language options in their games. Why?? Well, it’s really simple. The more languages they have, the wider their reach will be. But at the same time, including every language out there isn’t possible at all. That’s why you only see major languages in a game’s setting. Age of Wonders 4 also provides a myriad of language options for players from different parts of the world. But how do you really change the language of your choice? Let’s find out!

Age of Wonders 4 supports up to nine languages, including French, German, English, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, and Simplified Chinese. However, according to the game’s Steam page, only English has full-audio support. Although, the interface & subtitles can be changed to all nine languages. Now that you know what languages Age of Wonders 4 supports and doesn’t support, here’s how you can change them as per your preference.

Start the game and open Settings. You will see five main options – Main, Interface, Graphics, Audio, and Online. For the purpose of this guide, you need to go to the Main tab. Next, under the General sub-option, you will notice “Language” as the first option with English as the default language. All you need to do now is select the language of your choice and then click on Apply. Voila!! You have successfully changed the game’s language. Furthermore, you can always repeat the same process if you want to revert back to English or select any one of those nine languages.

Will the devs allow support for other languages in the future? Triumph Studios did answer that specific question in their regularly updated FAQ section, stating, “We are not planning to add any more languages for now, but we’ll keep you posted in case of changes!”. Well, it is safe to say that for now, only these nine languages will be in the game. Moreover, they also clarified in the same FAQ that the dev diaries will not be localized and will remain in English. They did add that they would support translations made by fans.

If support for more languages is added in AoW 4, we will be sure to update this article. With that said, don’t forget to check out DigiStatement for more on everything gaming.
