The developers of the Age of Darkness Final Stand have their hands full with a lot of tweaking and bug fixing. Lately, players have been complaining that the save function is not working properly in the game. While this is not a new issue, the full release has brought the error in front of many players. So, what do the devs have to say about this particular error? Continue reading to know all about it.
The issue is simple: when you save the game, it says the game has been saved but nothing of that sort happens. Now, as mentioned earlier, this issue has been there since the early days of the game prior to the recent full release. Without a proper save that retains your progress, you are likely to give up on the game. That said, let’s see what the official update is on the issue.
Age of Darkness Final Stand Unable to Save Issue: Is there any fix yet
You would be happy to know that the devs at PlaySide are actively looking through the player reports and investigating the bugs that show up. Similarly, with the full release of the game, here is what the developers have to say about the saving issue.
Dev’s response
On January 19, the developers acknowledged the saving issues reported by players. They assured players that resolving the problem was a top priority and said that they were actively working on a solution to address the saving issues as quickly as possible. Now, after this acknowledgment was done, a hotfix was released to address several key problems with the save function. The update fixed an issue where the auto-saving frequency setting string didn’t fit properly in the UI for German and Polish languages. Additionally, the hotfix included general improvements and added checks for saved files, which should help with debugging any future save-related problems. For many players, downloading and installing this latest hotfix is likely to resolve the saving issues they’ve encountered. Still, here are some other workarounds to try if you are facing the error with the game up to date.
Simple fixes
Start with simple fixes, restart your system, and then run the game in compatibility mode. All you have to do is right-click the game’s shortcut, select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and choose an older version of Windows to run it in. Additionally, close any unnecessary background apps to free up system resources, ensuring that the game has enough power to run smoothly without interference.
Verify Files
Verifying the game files is the next workaround to try out. Open your Steam library, right-click on the game, and select Properties. In the Installed Files tab, click Verify Integrity of Game Files. Steam will automatically download and replace any corrupted files, which can resolve many issues related to game performance or stability.
Anti-virus Interference
Sometimes, anti-virus software can mistakenly flag certain game files as threats, causing issues with saving or loading. To resolve this, you can temporarily disable your anti-virus software while playing the game. Alternatively, you can add Age of Darkness: Final Stand to your anti-virus exceptions list so that the software does not block or interfere with the game’s files.
Hidden Folders
If your “Documents” folder or the game’s save file directory is set to hidden, it could cause problems with the game’s ability to save progress. To unhide these folders, here is what you need to do! In your File Explorer, go to the View tab and check the box for Hidden items to make sure you can see all folders. Then, access the game’s save files, and if the save folder is hidden, right-click on the folder, and then deselect the Hidden attribute.
Ransomware Protection
Windows’ Ransomware Protection feature could be the culprit as well. For this, you can try and temporarily disable the Ransomware Protection feature. You can do this by going into Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > Ransomware Protection and turning it off. Be sure to reenable it after testing to maintain system security. Also, while in the Windows security tab, check that ‘Controlled folder access’ is set to off.
Last resort
If none of the shared workarounds have been effective and the game is up to date, reinstalling the game in a new directory is what you can try as the last resort. First, uninstall Age of Darkness: Final Stand from your system through Steam. Then, reinstall the game, but this time, choose a different installation directory for the installation.
