A Quiet Place The Road Ahead Ultrawide Support Is it available (2)

In a sea of management and life simulation games, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead brings a breath of fresh air to fans of the horror genre. As a newly released single-player horror adventure, the game is already receiving positive reviews. Based on the A Quiet Place movie franchise, it will take you to a post-apocalyptic world where survival depends on maintaining silence to avoid deadly sound-sensitive creatures. With all this attention surrounding the game, many players are raising a common question: does it support ultrawide monitors? Let’s go through the details and find out.

For many gamers, especially those with high-end setups, ultrawide support has become quite a deal breaker. The game’s moderate system requirements—demanding at least a Ryzen 3 1200 or Core i5-4690 and a GTX 1660, with a recommended spec of an RTX 3070—suggest that it should be able to handle modern gaming technologies, including ultrawide resolutions. Given that most AAA titles, and even many indie games, now launch with native ultrawide support, players were understandably expecting the same from A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead. After all, it’s a newly released game in 2024; why wouldn’t it have ultrawide compatibility? But, what’s actually the case?

A Quiet Place The Road Ahead Ultrawide Support: Is it available?

A Quiet Place The Road Ahead Ultrawide Support Is it available

While the game has many fans, there have been mixed reports when it comes to its ultrawide monitor support. Some players report that ultrawide support is available but with a catch. For instance, one player running the game at 3440×1440 on an RTX 4090 experienced chopping gameplay, managing only 22 FPS! This is very low performance considering the power of their GPU. Others have shared more positive experiences, with one user mentioning they were able to achieve 102 FPS on epic settings, using ray tracing and DLSS at a slightly lower resolution of 2440×1440, though 5120×1440 was still not supported. Some players have also reported that ultrawide support is not working at all. One player with a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor running the game at 3860×1600 mentioned that they were greeted with black bars on the left and right sides of the screen, both during gameplay and in cinematics. Fortunately, the gaming community has already started discovering workarounds for both the frame rate and the ultrawide black bars issues. Let’s break these down:

Frame Rate Fix

If you’re experiencing low FPS while running the game in ultrawide resolution, one possible fix involves disabling the Frame Generation option. Additionally, setting a manual refresh rate (e.g., 240Hz) instead of leaving the frame rate on “unlimited” has reportedly fixed the GPU usage issue for some players.

Ultrawide Black Bars Fix

For players facing the black bars issue, there’s a more technical solution that involves editing the game’s files. Using a hex editor like HxD, you can manually modify the game’s resolution parameters. These modifications can make the game fully support ultrawide displays, removing the black bars. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open the game’s executable file (AQuietPlace-Win64-Shipping.exe) using HxD Editor. The exe can be found at
    • \Steam Folder\steamapps\common\AQP\AQuietPlace\Binaries\Win64\AQuietPlace-Win64-Shipping.exe
  • Replace occurrences of the hexadecimal code 3B 8E E3 3F with the appropriate values for your resolution. For instance:
    For 3440×1440: 8E E3 18 40
    For 2560×1080: 26 B4 17 40
    For 3840×1600: 9A 99 19 40
    For 5120×1440: 39 8E 63 40

Save the changes and then restart the game to see if this fixes the issue.

Well, with the changes, you should be able to run A Quiet Place The Road Ahead on your ultrawide monitor without encountering black bars. Anyway, that is all the information we have regarding the ultrawide support in A Quiet Place The Road Ahead. We hope this was informative. Stay tuned to DigiStatement for more reads like this.
