Chivalry 2 is the sequel to the cult classic Chivalry: Medieval Warfare of 2012 and was released on June 8th, 2021 for Windows, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, keeping the spirit of the hack and slash alive, while also adding in a host of new features, including the much-anticipated horseback riding, as well as the significantly larger 64 player lobbies. In this article, we will be taking a look at when the third mainline instalment, presumably titled Chivalry 3, could be coming out. Right, let’s get into it.
Considering the fact that Chivalry 2 was released just earlier this month, it could be a good while before we see any sort of news breaking relating to a Chivalry 3 release. The first game, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare was released nine years before the sequel, and was based on the Age of Chivalry mod for Half-Life 2. The developers at Torn Banner Studios started working on Chivalry 2 in 2017, meaning it took a little under four years for them to finish working on the game. Going by the release pattern, however, it could be another five years before Torn Banner even starts to work on another instalment to the franchise.
A large contributor behind the delays between releases of Chivalry title might be the fact that its fanbase can keep the game alive and kicking for quite prolonged periods of time, an effect which was especially pronounced in the original 2012 title. Seeing as Torn Banner is a small studio with less than 20 employees that has developed only two other games away from the Chivalry franchise (one was shut down a year later, another was made for charitable causes), it seems inevitable that they will want to come back to the title that won them the Indie of the Year award from IndieDB. As such, it may just be a matter of biding our time as we wait for Chivalry 3.
We hope you are as excited as we are for what should be another indie hack n’ slash classic. Make sure to check out our other articles on the upcoming Forza Motorsport 8, Demon Slayer Hinokami Keppuutan and F1 2022. Cheers!
