Gears 6 Release Date for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X

Gears of War 6 might just remain in development for a long time yet, and we will take a look at how long it could be before we see another mainline installment in the Gears of War franchise. There’s been some recent developmental updates from the Coalition, and we’ll take a look at what it means for a possible Gears of War 6. Right, let’s get into it.

On May 10, 2021, The Coalition dropped a major announcement on their website. They announced that they would be moving all their new projects and existing assets to the new Unreal Engine 5. Moving to a new engine is a massive undertaking for any studio, and as a result, Coalition has confirmed that for the time being, they will not be announcing any new titles or projects. Their official announcement said, “Shifting to a new engine is a big undertaking, so we want to be clear that we will not be announcing any new projects or titles for some time. Last, our amazing team needs more exceptional professionals to help us continue to push the envelope, so, we’re hiring!” Clearly, Coalition is going through a transitional phase, as it hires new developers and switches to a new engine, in favour of bettering the quality of their future projects. For a game franchise like Gears of War, this is completely understandable. Unlike EA, they do not have the time-bound nature of yearly releases and do not possess nearly as many resources to switch from one engine to another in the span of 8 months or so, as EA did with their FIFA franchise, going from the Ignite Engine to the Frostbite Engine. The Coalition has promised to continue updates to Gears of War 5, with Operations 7 and 8 currently on the way with massive amounts of new content. Realistically, we are looking at late 2022 to early 2023 release for Gears of War 6.
